Advice From a Coach

I’ve discovered are two types of people: those who welcome it and actually implement the coaching advice and those who don’t.
I’ve done a massive amount of coaching during my 15+ year streak of business networking both on an individual level and group level. What I’ve discovered are two types of people: those who welcome it and actually implement the coaching advice and those who don’t.
While both types have the capacity for some level of success, I find the first type much more refreshing and a joy to work with because they have an open mindset which creates space and room for others to join them on the journey. They continually seek change and growth and in cases of group dynamics, they continually invite me to the table for valuable conversation as their coach. I appreciate that and will happily walk many miles with them.
The other type…If there’s any advice I could give someone who finds themselves among the other type…keep stepping. You’ll only spin your own wheels trying to make a difference – but you won’t. You’ll reach out multiple times but won’t get much response. You’ll walk in a room only to be met with cool indifference. You’ll offer the coaching you’ve been hired to provide, but they won’t take you seriously. Keep stepping. Literally.
Pour your energy into those who WANT to work with you (there is plenty of business to go around). Be QUICK to let go of those who don’t. You’ll save yourself a ton of headspace and time and energy which you can then focus on the ones you’re intended to work with.
Also, remember these two types can shift and morph and even trade places. It’s all relative and seasonal. Always hold things loosely so when it comes time to move on (or welcome the newcomer) you can do so gracefully, graciously, and without resentment.
