The Power of Failure in Reaching your Goals

Don't be deterred by failure! Failure is a normal part of learning. But make sure to put in place a support system to keep on going!
Did you know that an infant learning to walk averages 2368 steps and falls a whooping 17 times PER HOUR?
If you’ve ever watched an infant during this process, you will know that these falls can be brutal…
What do infants do when they fall?
Some of them cry for a bit, others not. Whatever their reaction, all of them end up standing up and trying again.
Their drive to walk is so great that there’s no way around it.
Each time they learn from their mistakes, and they do a little better. Until they succeed.
So why do we, as adults, become so deterred by failure?
Failure is a normal part of learning.
Trying and doing is what makes the difference between ‘knowing’, and ‘knowing about’.
Like an infant who is pulled to walking, if your drive is strong enough, you will succeed eventually.
Each failure is a learning experience, from which you can build to safely progress toward your goals.
And perhaps there’s another lesson to gain from our infants’ experiences.
As the infant learns to walk, her parents’ comfort and support helps her to stay confident and keep going.
You also do not have to do it on your own.
Because it is true that failure can hurt. Failure can demotivate and make you doubt.
That’s why it is essential to find ways to build resilience and keep going.
You can find support. Sometimes, being and talking with loved ones can be enough.
Sometimes, you may need a little bit more help. Working with a professional like a coach can help you reviewing your failures, gaining more awareness on what’s needed for you to progress towards your goals, and re-adjust your trajectory.
