Looking for quality friends? Check out these 5 characteristics of an individual that you should have in your corner.
After you have started building your positive community, you will need to start determining WHO specifically you want in your corner. This is not always an easy decision. However, it is a crucial step to building up a support system that has a positive influence on your life. That way, when life gets to be too much to handle on your own, you have individuals that will be there for you and encourage you through that season.
Maybe you already have friends, but you are starting to feel that they are not the best influence. Do you have friends that pressure you into doing things or making decisions that go against your personal values? If you don’t go along with what they are pressuring you to do, do your friends make fun of you or leave you behind? Are they making you feel unloved or not valued?
You have probably heard the phrase, “In your corner,” which means, “If you have someone in your corner, you have their support or help.” As you go through and answer those questions, did you say “yes” to any of them? If so, here are five characteristics of an individual that you should be seeking to place in your corner.
Five characteristics of individuals you should be placing as your support system:
1.) Listener – Actively listen and truly care about what you are saying and make you feel heard
2.) Respectful – Don’t pressure you to do things you don’t want to do or is against your personal values
3.) Encourager – They want you to excel, and come alongside you as you go through difficult situations or seasons in your life
4.) Honest – You can count on them to be truthful and keep you accountable even when it’s hard to
5.) Loyal – Not constantly concerned that they are going to ditch you when things get tough
Not everyone will have all five characteristics, but doing the best you can to seek out these characteristics will significantly help you to find the positive community you are craving. I also want to encourage you to learn how to grow so that you become a better friend to those around you.
