Failing forward

The word failure is probably one of the scariest words in the English language.
FAILURE !!
It’s a word that scares soooo
Many people !!
How many people
Do you know who would rather not even try because they are so scared of failing.
But what if we changed the narrative and made FAILURE something to strive for.
When my kids were still in primary school we started a dinner table ritual (inspired by spanx founder Sara Blakely )
A few times week I would ask “what did you fail at today ?” We all had to share our failures .. because in our house , failing was looked at as A POSITIVE !
It meant you had TRIES something new and that you fell , got up , dusted yourself off and then tried again.
The minute we started changing the meaning of failure in our home, things became a lot less daunting and we all started failing forward !
The kids started coming home
with more and more stories of courage.
Failure was now a way to grow and flourish!
The boys are now in post secondary and they both look at failure as a positive way to learn and grow.
So here’s a challenge for you :
Change the narrative of “failure “
In your home.
Start talking about small “failures “ and the lessons you learned from what didn’t work.
You may be surprised at how fast your brain starts to focus on the lessons these “failures “ offer you !
So go ahead – give it try ! And witness the positive power of failing forward !
