Take a risk or play it safe?

Which works for your growth?
True confession…
- I love comfort.
- Routine.
- Predictability.
- Protection.
- Security.
- Stability.
- The known.
And as much as I love all of that ….
The opposite I dread.
- Fear, failure, and uncertainty used to scare the shi*t out of me. Actually, in many ways, it still does.
Yet I know that growth happens by taking risks.
- Failing.
- Falling.
- Uncertainty.
Some examples all of us might relate to….
When I learned to walk, I fell a lot (I have a scar in my left eyebrow to prove one of my failures going headfirst into the corner of a piece of furniture.)
Yet, I learned to walk and never stopped. I took a risk leaving my comfort zone of crawling on the ground and learned to be upright and moving.
Learning to ride a bike? Same thing. Massive failure ensued when I tried. Skinned knees, wiping out on unforgiving concrete, bruises, sore muscles.
But I left my comfort zone of standing on two feet, firmly grounded to earth, and learned to balance and propel myself forward on two wheels.
I bet you did as well.
Starting an online life coaching business after being a novelist and adjunct professor for years? Yup. Scary and risky as hell.
Here’s my point….
“Risks are scary, but so is staying in your comfort zone and regretting lost opportunities when you get older. It’s the risk you don’t take that can be the major failure in your life. And if you think you’re too old, remember: age is just a number, and it’s never too late to live out your dreams,“ Yael Friedman, Neuro.
Why not step out of your comfort zone?
