Zoom! Zip! Whoosh!
It’s seems that my life is always booked, busy, packed ….. on fast speed go, go, go!
However my forced slow down (recap from my last email: broken foot, surgery, non weight bearing, hopping, balancing and using a knee scooter…..) has left me really slowed me down, almost to a stop (at least for a few more weeks.)
Which has allowed a lot more concentrated time for me to work on my coaching business (all online and virtual) but also gave me pause to savor the joy of little moments.
The same moments that whizzed past me as I ran through life.
It’s all about mindfulness. Slowing down.
Research has shown that there are many benefits of being in the moment including:
- Decreased Depression.
- Increased Emotional Regulation.
- Reduced Anxiety and Stress.
- Better Memory.
- Cognitive Improvements.
- Stronger Relationships.
- Better Physical Health.
- Sounds good right?
So how can you tap into all the wonderfulness of being more present?
1. Stop and take notice of what you’re doing.
2. Put the phone down, turn off the TV and your computer…and be distraction free. Try 10 minutes.
3. Breathe. In for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts, out for 4 counts, hold for 4 counts. Repeat.
4. Rejoice in the little joys. A flower. The sun. A fresh cup of coffee. A smile. Your favorite comfy shirt. Love. Kindness.
5. Focus, really focus, in the moment. You can ask questions like Where am I? What is around me? What sounds do I hear? What can I physically feel around me? What do I smell? How am I feeling? What am I thankful for?
6. Try meditation, deep breathing, take a walk in nature, try yoga, or another type of mindfulness practice.
7. Really listen, without thinking of a response. Listen with your heart. Hold space for the other person. Really hear them.
8. Enjoy your routines. When you have your morning cup of coffee or tea, slow down. Savor the ritual, without distractions.
9. Write down what you are grateful for.
10. Slow down. Literally take your time. Pay attention.
How do you stay present in your daily life?
Enjoy your moments—-
