Everyone knows that kindness matters. However, a lot of people do not always practice it.
Everyone knows that kindness matters. However, a lot of people do not always practice it. I can be very hard with someone yelling at you, belittling you, or treating you badly in some other way.
I have been on a couple of different networking events where, although kindness was not the specific topic, it came up every time. Why? Because it matters.
Have you ever paid it forward? I have and it felt incredible! To see a child’s face when he received a piece of fruit his mom could not afford at the grocery store that I bought for him, was amazing. His mom was so very grateful she started to cry. It was a small gesture, but one that meant the world to both of them. Being kind does not have to take much at all.
What are some very easy ways to be kind? Here is my list for you to try:
1 – Pay it forward like I did.
2 – Say thanks – to your family, friends, co-workers, boss, strangers, etc. Everyone likes gratitude where deserved.
3 – Help someone who needs it. Think about someone who is carrying a load of groceries struggling to open a door, a person who could use your help crossing the street, to someone who feel and needs help. Always ask if it is ok first.
4 – Smile at those you pass on the sidewalk while walking. It is much better than staring at your phone and ignoring them.
5 – Look at the driver when you are crossing a street. This is not only for your safety, but for the courtesy of the driver too.
6 – Buy someone a small gift as a thanks or for no reason at all.
7 – Show up on time for parties, meetings, etc. Most people don’t think of this but wasting people’s time is not being kind to them or respecting them either.
8 – Listen when someone talks. That means put the phone down, look at them, listen attentively, hear what they are saying, let them finish talking before you speak.
9 – Volunteer. There are many organizations that need your help and you may be just the person with the time and expertise to help.
10 – Donate and recycle. This can help those in need, the environment, animals, and marine life too.
11 – Offer your talent to a neighbour for a project. Maybe they are building a deck and you have the perfect experience to help with this on a Saturday.
12 – Don’t gossip. Gossip is not always factual. Gossiping can hurt others, so stay away from it and ask others to not gossip to you either. Then you do not have the information to pass on either.
13 – Know someone with a small business or who runs a MLM business? Support them by either purchasing their goods or services, or by promoting them to others.
14 – Find a deal? Share it with someone who could use that deal too. Maybe there is a sale on milk – tell your mom groups…they likely want to know.
15 – Pay a visit to someone in person (where possible) that you have not seen in a long time. Catch up (no phones), talk, enjoy tea and snacks.
16 – Point out the positive to someone who can only see the negative in a situation.
17 – Embrace your local area. For example, buy from local farmers during their product / produce season.
18 – Compliment someone.
19 – Leave great reviews or give recommendations to those who deserve it. This does not just have to be businesses, but if you are on LinkedIn, you can endorse skills of friends and co-workers or even add a recommendation for them.
20 – See the good in others.
There are so many ways to be kind and it matters to everyone. I want to thank you for reading this blog or being a client. You Matter!
