Finding Your Why

Have you ever reached a point in your life where you ask yourself, why are you here? What is your purpose? What is your life for?
Maybe you feel stuck in your career or your life in general or you feel like you have no momentum or zeal anymore for the things that you used to do. Well, this might be because you haven’t found your why. I’m not talking about the 25th letter in the alphabet.
When I’m talking about your why, I’m talking about a statement of purpose that describes why you do the work you do and why you live the lifestyle you live. It’s a calling, a conviction, a mission statement, a vision of your life and work, and your core source of motivation. It’s like a reference point for all your decisions and actions, it defines who you are and what makes you productive.
It’s the reason for your life’s work.
There are huge benefits of finding your why. The main benefit being that it provides you with clarity. So any confusion you have or questioning that you might find yourself doing, if you know your why then you have clarity and the question of why you even exist, tends to dissipate and go away. Another benefit is that infuses you with a passion for your goals because you’ve got focus now. You know why you’re doing the things that you do.
It keeps you focused on your goals. It helps you to live healthier and longer. It helps you to develop resilience, because if you’ve got a big why there’s nothing that’s gonna stop you from getting there. It allows you to live a life with integrity because you know what you’re doing, you know what you’re about and you know why you’re doing those things.
So if you don’t know what your why is, there are a few ways that you can do it. And here are some questions that you can ask yourself:
What makes you come alive?
What are your innate strengths?
Where do you add the greatest value?
How will you measure your life?
For me, I know that love makes me come alive. Love of my family, love of the work that I do, and helping people to love what they do, too. That is my thing. What is my innate strength? I can tell you that I’m an effective communicator. And I love sharing information. So if you’ve got one of those friends who shares useful links, that’s me. I will find out what you like and when I come across a link with more information about that thing, I will remember that you like that and I’ll share it with you. And that’s one of my innate strengths. So I’m an effective communicator. I remember the things that people like, and I love sharing with people on their terms.
Where do you add the greatest value? So for me adding the greatest value is offering my love of love from one to many. I’m on a mission. I’m on a mission to spread love on a massive level. For me to do that, I have my podcast, and I’ve got a Facebook group too.
And one of the last questions that you can ask yourself is how will you measure your life? One of the ways I measure my life is by how much laughter we have. That doesn’t mean we’re pretending there’s nothing wrong. Let’s face it, open your eyes, and look at what’s going on in the world. It’s a pretty challenging time right now for most of us. No, I don’t mean we don’t have challenges but we have a lot of laughter in my home and that’s one of the ways that I measure my life.
When I come to the end of my days, I want my whole love vessel to be empty. I’m pouring it all out right now. I’m not waiting. I’m pouring my love and my joy and my laughter out on everything and into every day. I don’t do this by denying my emotions. If I’m upset about something, those who are closest to me are going to know.
But I try to get rid of that negative emotion. I feel it, you know. I acknowledge it but I don’t let it run away with me. But for me, the big thing is when I’m old, I want to know that I loved my last drop of love. I’m going to continue until my very last breath – loving and giving love and receiving love and joy and laughter. That’s how I’m going to be measuring my life and I’m clear about that.
A tried and tested way to help you come to your why is definitely, without a doubt, executive coaching. One of the things that can be focused on, is what is your purpose? Because, although, when coaching, you know, we can talk about goals and stuff like that, you might find, unless you know what your why is, you’re kind of on the wrong trajectory. You may not even realize it. You might be thinking, “Oh, I’m a little bit lacklustre in this career at the moment, because I haven’t had many sales recently, or I haven’t seen as many patients in my chiropractic practice recently.” You might be thinking, that’s the reason why, but it might be because you’re not supposed to be a chiropractor. It could be that you’re supposed to be a gardener or, you know, who knows. But without your why, you might find that you’re actually not on the path that you truly, truly want because you’ve not taken out the time to sit down and think about it.
The questions I’ve outlined here might help you find your why, but if you need help actually getting there and creating habits to maintain being on the correct trajectory, then executive/leadership coaching with me is worth looking into.
So if you’re in leadership, or you own your own business, or you’ve got your leadership role in the workspace, and you’ve got to come home and be a leader in the home space, we could be a perfect fit.
If you are in a leadership role and you want your organisation to sponsor you, please speak to HR and send them my way. Let them know that you’re interested. I’ll let them know my leadership qualifications and further information about my role and why their organisation should be helping mothers in leadership roles, with executive/leadership coaching, because they will benefit. .
In the meantime, I would like to know what your why is. If you already know what your why is, that’s fantastic. I’ve given you mine. You know I’m big on love and positive energy, and helping people to live a full life. Well, I didn’t say it but really, for me, it’s about helping people to live a fulfilling life – a life with no regrets. That’s what I’m after and I want to share that. I want to scale that. I really want to do that and that’s my mission.
What is your mission? What is your why? What is your goal? Do you have one? Have you thought about it before now? If not, send it to me.
Executive coaching gives you the tools, habits, and strategies to ditch overwhelm, overcome maternal guilt and are more present for your family – and yourself.
