Does the Focus on your Path Mean Missing Opportunities Directly in Front of You?

Are we letting the focus of our path distract from the opportunities right in front of us?
I recently listened to a webinar hosted by Modern Elder Academy, “Get Unstuck & Find Joy in a Career Swerve with Chip Conley, Aaron Taylor, & Janis Nakano Spivack” (see my other article: I am not Enough. Note to Self: You are Enough!). Janis spoke about her experience trying to pursue something she really wanted while another opportunity kept showing up. Her learning? Try not to find the path, rather pay attention and be open to the opportunities that present themselves along the way. For those of us bound and determined to find the path, or the purpose, perhaps you are missing out on the opportunities right in front of you. Pursuing an opportunity that appears, that is perhaps “off the path”, doesn’t mean we have to veer off the path, but simply not ignoring the options that show up along the way!
Janis further goes on to discuss that as we age, our biggest challenge is letting go of who we think we are. Are we missing out on great opportunities because of this perception or boundaries we put around ourselves? Next time you want to say no to an opportunity, pause and ask yourself these questions:
Am I saying no because it is not who I am? Versus
Am I saying no because that is not who I think I am?
Are you struggling to define who you really are? Are you at a cross roads in life, and need a catalyst to take a leap. Let’s work together to figure it out!
