Prior to implementation, what helps to determine whether your choice is likely the best choice? Here are my thoughts on assessing leadership choices.
Proficiency in decision-making provides the leader with opportunities to choose the very best path to problem resolution. Practicing proper decision-making will provide the leader with greater self-confidence and reduce the likelihood of decision-making blunders and delays.
Here’s my description of a leadership choice that’s likely the right choice:
A. It’s based on shared agreement that the leader relied upon dependable sources of information and the leader’s reasoning is sound
B. As fully as possible, the choice resolves the target issues with acknowledgement of clear trade-offs and has minimal unavoidable negative results/impacts
C. The choice is clearly consistent with, and adheres to, the organization’s values and mission
D. The choice will have the support of stakeholders directly and indirectly responsible for implementation
In the end, the success of the leader’s choice will undoubtedly be measured by the depth and breadth of positive shift within the organization.
