I had a severe scarcity money mindset.
And a true fear that if I ever had money that I’d lose it all.
My fear of losing it all came to realization when I noticed how much more anxious I got when I started making good money.
I always thought that having more money meant more happiness and freedom…But for me, having more money surprisingly brought more fear and worry.
When I dug deeper on this, I realized it might have stemmed from a few things:
- My dad’s addiction and alcoholism meant he was chronically unemployed leaving us poor – and I thought that was my true lot in life. Having no money.
- Always hearing from our mother, that money was evil and that you will work yourself to death and will still never have enough.
- Being told that those who have money are greedy and mean.
Here’s how these thoughts have affected me in my business:
Playing small because playing big would mean having more to lose. The Consequences:
*Not launching right away until I got every degree, credential, certification and tested out my product on dozens of pro bono clients (and giving away everything without charging a penny.)
*Deep rooted fear of making money = being “greedy and mean.”
*Not wanting to hire too many people because it would mean having more responsibility and again, more things to possibly lose.
*Being afraid to do more than what I’m already doing.
Lessons learned:
*Yes, I may lose the money (and trust me I have), but I will never lose the skills I learned to make a living for myself.
*Live my life to the fullest potential and continue to invest in myself to get there. Because no matter what *I will always be okay because of the person I’ve built myself to become.
*Play full out. Because this is my one and only life and I want to continue to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
You be wonderful you,
Lois
