Taking the Leap!

What does it feel like to finally take a huge leap forward towards your dreams?
What does it feel like to finally take a huge leap forward towards your dreams? Well, I just did that recently. There are many different emotions and feelings that go with it, but it felt amazing!
My dream for years now has been to work full time hours as a life/career/business coach and business consultant. However, my limiting belief was not my abilities, but money. Will I make enough to be ok? Will my family support a few months without my regular steady income? After working with my coach, and talking with my family, the answer is that we will. The support is wonderful!
What was the first thing I did? I started to get rid of my limiting beliefs and believing in myself as a coach. I have a sign in my office that says, “Never give up! I believe in myself! I’ve got this!” I look at it every day and realize that I can do this. My last sticky note I put on my monitor when I realized the day was coming and I was holding onto a bit of the last fears was, “Just Do It!” Yes, this slogan we all know well, was the one that allowed me to move forward towards my dreams. I looked at it one day when I was ready, said it out loud, and hit send on a resignation email to my corporate company.
How did I take the leap to resigning from my job from just an affirmation? I have done several things to help me feel great about my decision, but it did take time. First, I hired a great coach. She has taught me to use my skills and create visual charts about where I want to be to leave my full-time job. For example, I needed a certain value of money saved to feel comfortable in taking the leap, so I created a chart I updated every month where I could see the increases happening. Visual is me. It may be something different for you, but me, I need to see the change. It worked and helped my family save even more than I thought we would. I also wanted a steady stream of clients that I was able to take on a part time evening basis. And I have achieved where I am comfortable and with the number of regular clients I now have, while ensuring I have work/life balance – full time work, evening coaching, and my family is a lot to balance.
Where am I now? Well, I know that my resume is good and that jobs are out there. As a career coach, I can work my way to finding work if I need to. However, it is believing in myself, my abilities, my skills, and my amazing clients that finally pushed me to take the leap. The emotions have been all over the place, from sadness due to resigning from somewhere I have been for so many years, gratefulness for being able to do what I want, fear of the What If’s, relaxation knowing I am ok even if a What If happens and having the freedom of choice. I have a lot of support from my family, coaches (I now have 2 – one for life and one for business), clients, friends, and so many others.
Do you have a dream that you want to take the leap for? Then let’s talk about how you can be prepared mentally, financially, or however else you need to be prepared to take your own leap! It can be done, so let’s achieve your dream too!
