If you are feeling stuck, here are 4 steps to help you navigate how to move forward to get things accomplished.
Why do we have a hard time doing hard things? First of all, we are never the only ones. We are not the only person in the world who is struggling to do the next thing. For some this is encouraging, and others will instantly say, “Well that’s neat, but knowing that still doesn’t help me tackle this project I need to accomplish.”We are all different in how we react to the stress of needing to accomplish things. Some of us put it off until the last minute, some make excuses as to why this particular task is just not doable, and others complain about all the other things in life getting in the way of what they truly need to check off their list. For most of us, uncertainty is what bogs us down. We don’t even know it’s happening to us because we are so frustrated and fixated on the fact that we aren’t moving forward.
This is where it gets fun, however we have decisions to make. This checklist will help you organize your thoughts and identify the true emotions behind each task. Is it truly difficult, or is it just bigger in your mind? Figuring out the root of why these tasks aren’t getting accomplished will remove that block in your mind and cause you to see them as manageable:
NEEDS: What do you need to accomplish? After writing these down, describe a simple emotion behind each task.
(For example Steps to starting a business — Afraid)
SIZE: Out of these needs, list each task from easiest to hardest.
TIME: Embrace the deadline and set a specific date for your task to be accomplished.
RESEARCH: Begin with the easiest task, break each task down and research the best way to accomplish it — continue down the list until you are done.
(For example: look up YouTube videos or search for a podcast)
START: After identifying true emotions, breaking them down, and determining the best course of action, start checking things off your list.
