I See you. I Hear You.

I See you. I Hear You.
Please take a moment. Read over that line one more time.
I see you… I hear you.
How did that make you feel?

It is a universal need to feel heard and seen.
- We want connection.
- We want to know we are seen.
- We want to feel understood.
- We want to know we are heard.
Years ago, I remember a time when my youngest (of four children) hid under a table and cried.
His two year old self had hurt and sad feelings. Tears streamed down his face as he ran and tucked himself under the dining room table.
His three siblings played nearby, laughing and screaming in delight oblivious to the distress of their youngest family member.
I stopped what I was doing (the never ending chores). I got down to his level and crawled under the dining room table. I sat next to him.
He stopped crying for a moment. He seemed surprised that I was under the table with him.
Then he cried as he told me that the “big kids” were ignoring him and wouldn’t let him play.
- I listened.
- He cried.
- He got it out.
I repeated what he said to me “That must make you sad.” “You really want to play with the big kids” “You don’t like being left out”
…….and I stayed with him.
Then one of the “big kids” came looking for him. He crawled out, wiped his tears and joined them in whatever game they were playing.
- Me being there said, “I see you.”
- Me listening said, “I hear you.”
- Repeating back what he said to me, said “I get you. I understand.”
As a Master Level Certified Professional Life coach, my goal is to see, hear and understand my clients. I do this by providing a safe and confidential space for them. I Listen. I hear them.
