A Short article about importance of Morning Routines
9 years ago, on a fine Thursday morning, I was about to get discharged from the hospital after being diagnosed with a common genetic heart disease that affects at least about 1 million patients per year in India alone. #arrhythmia.
“Did you get good #sleep last night?” Asked the #doctor as he was writing my #dischargesummary.
“You gotta be joking, doc; I haven’t been able to sleep at all with all the sounds of these monitoring devices,” I said.
He smiled and fired his next question. “What’s your #routine? What time do you normally sleep? What time do you wake up?”
“I wake up at 8:30 AM and sleep at 1:00 AM, doc,” I told him.
“Why so? Do you work in shifts?” he asked.
“Yes, doc, I do the 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and by the time I am home, it’s 9:30 PM, and then by the time we finish dinner and hit the bed, it is 12:30 to 1 AM,” I said.
“Look, chap, let me ask you this, you are young now; your body can take all this, but how long do you think you can sustain this?” he asked.
#Poorroutine & #badhabits kill more people in this world than even #cancer. It is the root cause of all lifestyle-induced health issues. And, often, we ignore all alarm signals only to realize all of it a little too late.
Today I wake up at 4:45, spend some time meditating, journaling, and expressing gratitude, do my daily chores with a lot more focus and energy.
I’ve often heard many people (including many of my friends) complain that they don’t have #time to work towards achieving their goals. Well, it’s never about time; it’s all about energy.
If you observe closely, our minds and bodies are designed to give maximum output in the mornings, and they get tired and lose energy by the end of the day, leaving people mentally drained and physically fatigued.
On the other hand, waking up early allows you to get a headstart on your day. You can use the time to work on your physical and mental health goals and find ways to enhance your routine and relationships with yourself and others. As a bonus, I also get to enjoy the wonderful morning sounds!
