Not all of us are 'natural' leaders. But it doesn't mean we can be great, anyway

While being the best do-er is great, figuring out how to excel again when you’re basically starting over in a leadership role is daunting.
Some say that only people who are “natural” leaders can be good a leadership…
I’ve had people say things to me like: “Other people are naturally good at leading, but that’s not me. I didn’t have brothers or sisters, I didn’t grow up as ‘the bossy one’, and I really don’t know what I’m doing. Everyone can see it.”
Well, maybe they can see it, and maybe they can’t, but as long as you keep telling YOURSELF a story about why you aren’t as good of a leader as people who grew up with brothers and sisters or were bossy, guess what?
You won’t be.
A lot of people might say that this is just good ol’ fashioned insecurity, but I see this as a classic Imposter Syndrome story rearing its ugly head, helping you make excuses as to why you can’t be better at what you’re doing.
Because while being the best do-er is great, figuring out how to excel again when you’re basically starting over in a leadership role is daunting.
And so our negativity bias will tell us all sorts of stories about why we’re not good enough, smart enough, “naturally” talented enough.
But you CAN get better at being a leader.
What are the attributes of great leadership?
In my book, they’re:
+ Communication
+ Resilience
+ Vision
+ Decision-making
+ Generosity
+ Empathy
And the good news? All of these are 100% skills that you can actively improve in yourself.
You get to decide if you want to transform yourself into a great leader.
In order to be the kind of leader you’d want to follow, you need to actively build your leadership capabilities, though.
Because when you get this right, you’ll be able to have a happy team, prevent problems, trust your decisions, and… sleep well at night.
In my 6-week intensive, Wonderleader, understanding your identity as a leader is one of the main things that I help offbeat leaders to work on in order to go from Freaked-out Doer to Confident Boss.
We also work on skill-building, subconscious blocks, and ownership/ self-responsibility. DM me if interested and we’ll have a quick chat to see if it’s fit.
