Being afraid to act isn't caused by blind spots... it's caused by this

And when you fix this, you’ll understand that even if you take the “wrong” action, it’s still better than not taking any action.
I see a lot of people who are afraid to act…
Why?
They’re worried that they have blind spots that will cause them to make mistakes.
And those mistakes would hurt the people around them.
Of course, I notice this because I’ve definitely done this… sometimes unconsciously, but usually because of over-thinking.
I didn’t want to make:
-A bad decision
-A bad impression
-A big mistake that might have consequences I couldn’t predict or handle
Most people would identify the root of this as fear, and it does play a big part in why we have this problem… but what’s really causing it is a lack of self-trust.
And usually, we don’t trust ourselves because we don’t know ourselves as well as we could.
We think we need to research new methods of doing things, new products, or vast resources when what we REALLY need to research is… ourselves.
Theoretically, that should be pretty easy- I mean, you’re with yourself all the time, right?
But in practice, people struggle.
Because they don’t know where to start.
And they don’t know what to do with the knowledge they gain.
I hesitated to do a lot of self-exploration for a while because I was afraid of what I might find.
I also didn’t want to typecast myself into some box based on some high-level online assessment. (“I’m an ENFJ! I don’t DO introverted!”)
But by not getting to know myself better, I was unknowingly making it a lot harder to act.
A lot of people will say, “Just go for it!” (or “Just do it!”) but if you’re:
- Not sure what “it” is
- Or not sure how you’ll handle any possible unforeseen consequences of “doing it”
Why in the world would you all of a sudden become more decisive or an action-taker?
In order to become a consistent leader and action-taker, you need to trust yourself. And in order to trust yourself, you have to know yourself.
Because when you get this right, you’ll understand that even if you take the “wrong” action, it’s still better than not taking any action.
In my 6-week intensive, Wonderfocus, self-trust is one of the main things that I help offbeat leaders to work on in order to go from Freaked-out Doer to Confident Boss.
We also work on skill-building, subconscious blocks, and ownership/ self-responsibility. DM me if interested and we’ll have a quick chat to see if it’s fit.
