The Entrepreneurial world is no “fairy tale”. There are at least 5 Vital Things YOU MUST DELIBERATELY DO to achieve your dream life & business.
TAKE NOTES AND PREPARE FOR DISRUPTION
This might be the most straightforward and controversial article you have read in a while, so breathe deeply and relax. In our next few minutes together I want to help you cut through the hype and fluff that seems to have exponentially increased in the past few years, especially when it comes to Professional Development for Entrepreneurs.
Have you noticed that too? Everywhere you turn, someone seems to have unlocked “new secrets” and is ready to teach you how to build a business, reach success, create millions and “live happily ever after”.
The Entrepreneurial world though, is no “fairy tale”. There are at least 5 Vital Things you MUST deliberately do if you are already an Entrepreneur and want to achieve more or if you dream of becoming an Entrepreneur.
1. You Must Live by your Core “Biological” Needs
When I say “Biological Needs” it is because, as Humans, we are Animals first. And in the Animal Kingdom there are basically 2 “Lifestyle” categories. Animals “biologically” live either a Solo life or travel in Groups.
You see, a Real Entrepreneur is “Solitary” more like a Leopard, an Orangutan, a Giant Panda or a Black Rhino. These animals have a completely different set of Biological lifestyle Needs than Elephants who stay in herds or Wolves who run in packs.
Only when you are totally fine tracking down your prey on your own, will you survive “Solo”. Only when you totally accept that both the risks as well as the rewards depend on you, is it advisable to venture into the land of Entrepreneurship.
But actually it is not a choice. You cannot think yourself with mindset work into being a Real Entrepreneur. It is in your DNA! Less than 10% of the population can consider themselves as such. “Hype” will convince you of the contrary, but look at the statistics of how many Entrepreneurial Businesses fail.
You either are or you are not! It is as straightforward as that.
With this, your Core “Biological Need” is Freedom. You give up the “herd” Need for Stability and Protection. You won’t make it in the jungle of Entrepreneurship if you feel unsafe without a regular paycheck.
2. You Must Define Your Role in the Freedom Category
There are 4 Main Roles in what I call the “Ecosystem” of Business. The first 2 are for you in the Freedom Category, and the other 2 are for the Stability people. As a Real Entrepreneur, in the grand scheme of things, your overall Role is to be the bringer of change and innovation.
There are 2 ways you can do that: the first is in the Role of the Visionary (ie the out of the box person who foresees trends before they take place) and the second in the Role of the Communicator of the vision to everyone else. Which are you?
While the Visionary is busy in his/her garage tinkering with inventions, the Communicator takes the ideas to the top Stability person, the Leader, who gets his/ her Followers to produce it. This is the sequence of communication among all 4 Roles.
There are more Stability people, thank goodness, because they stay in the offices, factories, schools and supermarkets and make sure we all have the supplies for our modern day life. But they are slow to change with the intricacy of “systems” to keep things going. Real Entrepenereurs do not like this entanglement. That is why the Real Entrepreneur exists… to improve on these!
3. You Must Go Deeper into Your Resourcefulness
In simple wording “Know Thyself”.In my over 25 years experience as a Trainer and Coach, I have witnessed hundreds of business professionals make disasterous decisions because they were not crystal clear on these first 3 vital and fundamental aspects. They were frustrated in the wrong place, burned out striving for more and unsure what to change! They relied on strategies and skill set but did not know who they were!
First things first: your Animal side must feel comfortable and that is achieved in the first 2 points. Next, your Human side must have answers to existential questions about “Who You Are” and “Why You are Here”. As a Real Entrepreneur, you deeply desire to be on your path to self realization, live life to the fullest and step into your greater potential. If that is not you, then go back to the office job.
The “higher value” of self realization is a bigger driver than just working for the money, fame and success. It’s about you making this world a better place by being here on earth. And how you do this is unique, since you are a unique individual.
Does this sound too “philosophical”? Well, in the 21st Century, things are changing. We are finally able to talk more holistically, even in Business. My personal journey has been to create tools to help people tap into their inner resourcefulness so they avoid losing themselves on the road to success. I see too many people trying to imitate the latest “guru” in some category only to find, after lots of time and money spent, that what worked for another person is because it was aligned to who they are! And that doesn’t mean it will work for you.
In the Personality Profile and Coaching Methodology I created, there are 12 Facets to your Complete Personality and when you know yourself this deeply, you are empowered, energized and ensured to create a life, business and relationships you love! You have it all inside. Life is an inside game. Play all out Your Way.
4. You Must Overcome Loneliness & Accept to be Misunderstood
There are a few predictable traps I have seen Entrepreneurs fall into when they have take this point lightly. What often happens when an Entrepreneur is either questioning certain decisions or excited about successes, is that they talk to someone.
They tell a friend or partner what they are doing… but the other person doesn’t get it. And “pop”, this bursts their bubble. Then the Entrepreneur starts doubting themself and justifying their actions. It is such a terrible feeling. Everyone want to be understood!
Know that you have your path, your dreams and your personal projects. No one else has the same ones! Only you can feel how it moves and motivates you. Find a way to live your inner enthusiasm without being influenced by other people’s judgement.
In other situations, I have seen Entrepreneurs begin to feel lonely, they are carrying too much responsibility and want support. So they seek out a business partner or create a team. If your business begins to grow and you have more than 4 people on your team, then you “biologically” become a “pack” or “herd”.
That means that you are a Small Business Owner in the Role of the Leader. You are not anymore a Real Entrepreneur. As the “Leader of the Pack” your prime responsibility is now to create “Stability” for those you employ. Poof! Fulfilling your Need for Freedom magically disappears and soon even greater frustration sets in.
Sorry! This is how your brain registers things and your brain runs your biology! That is why you need to be crystal clear on points number 1 and 2. Maybe you were enticed into the Entrepreneurial Lifestyle but actually needed the group dynamics of Leader – Follower. These points are not easy things to figure out on your own so go ahead and reach out to me.
5. You Must Plan Time to Socialise with a “Pack”
Down deep you know, that in this life, you are going “Solo” but sometimes your “Social Animal” needs fulfillment too. Most of the people you hang around with “migrate in herds”. You don’t crave company as much as they all do. You tend to be happy doing your own thing. Sometimes you feel that belonging to a group, especially if they expect you to do things a certain way, limits you.
You like to hop in and out of groups. You can network and collaborate for a while with others but then you need to be alone again in your tree like a Koala eating eucalytus leaves.
The tricky part for a married Real Entrepreneur, is that you might have a spouse who is a Stability person. That is usually the way it is. This makes for predictable and contrasting values – your decisions are driven by your Core Value of Freedom and theirs by Stability. Remember, the biggest cause of disagreements is “differences in values”. Know yours, respect those of others and don’t force others to believe like you!
In conclusion
To conclude: What I see on the rise in the Personal and Professional Development arena, along with the superficial hype that you can be and do it all, is an exponential increase in “conference junkies”. These people are after the “golden nugget” hoping it will transform their life. They are often “want to be” Entrepreneurs with potential but continue to invest their time preying off Free How To’s. They don’t do the foundational work on themselves learning, integrating and living these 5 points.
Bottom line: When you are true to who you are, why you are here, where you excel and what you innately do well, then you can calmly and confidently achieve greatness as a Real Entrepreneur. It is part of natural and universal law. It is in the divine order of things.
These 5 points go way beyond the “how to techniques” and “business strategies”. They are the basis to a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. Isn’t that what you really want most anyway?
