When you are aware of what makes you tick, you stand taller. You feel more empowered to change your life.
So much is being talked about the power of sub-conscious mind, but, we all know very little about how we can train our unconscious mind(UM) to be powerful. The most effective way to change your behavior for the better is to work in tandem with your unconscious mind. How many of us made New Year’s resolutions this year, but have already broken them? Maybe we told ourselves we’ll exercise more, or spend more time with our children, or not get so angry all the time. But we’re no closer to these goals than we were before. Ask yourself if you are truly committed to change.
Only if the answer is “yes” can you overcome those powerful winds and currents that can drive you off course. According to Eliezer Sternberg, a neurologist at Yale-New Haven Hospital, “The unconscious system in the brain pieces together fragments of our perceptions, anticipating patterns and filling in gaps when necessary… to devise a single, meaningful interpretation. It tells a story. The conscious system experiences that story but can also reflect on it and question it.” Why did both the conscious and unconscious systems evolve? Sternberg doesn’t say so explicitly, but his way of delineating brain activity suggests one reason we may have evolved consciousness: to shoot down illogical stories concocted by the unconscious – which he calls an “egocentric storyteller” – that can get things wrong when the neural circuitry goes haywire.
While we are fully aware of what is going on in the conscious mind, we have no idea of what information is stored in the unconscious mind. The unconscious contains all sorts of significant and disturbing material which we need to keep out of awareness because they are too threatening to acknowledge fully. Our feelings, motives and decisions are actually powerfully influenced by our past experiences, and stored in the unconscious.
Why is the unconscious mind so important? Because it drives most of what we do. But the point of it being “unconscious” is that we are not always actively aware of why we are doing it. It can control our being and how we conduct ourselves; it can also help us unleash our potential once we learn how to tap into it. Why is the unconscious mind so important? It can control our being and how we conduct ourselves; it can also help us unleash our potential once we learn how to tap into it. The unconscious mind can come out in different ways. It can be the reason you are acting a certain way or how you make a decision. he unconscious mind organizes all memory according to time, we know this as a time line, your unconscious mind does this so you can differentiate between past and future memories. When you remember a past experience you only recall a perception of it based on your beliefs and values at the time, you filter it again based on your current values and beliefs as they are today, which is why time is a good healer.
Your brain has evolved in many ways, but one way remains fundamental: survival. Your brain reacts and reassesses your survival all the time, largely through the unconscious mind. What you think of creates your reality or your experience of it. When you react to something, the first thing your brain asks is “Will I survive?” and acts accordingly.
This awareness changes your destiny. You can suddenly control how you think, which alters your experience of reality. This can unleash your potential. When you are aware of what makes you tick, you stand taller. You feel more empowered to change your life.
