Resolutions are dreams without planning, accountability & action!

Do you dream of acquiring something new like a skill or possession? What stops you from change or forging ahead?
I recently posted on IG about resolutions vs habits and my short sweet post didn’t go into great detail about the difference. So here goes!
It doesn’t matter where we are in life and what we have or haven’t accomplished. We always have a pipe dream, a wish, or a desire that seems out of reach. So, the dream sits there nudging us in the back of our brains while we watch others accomplish what we feel we can’t! I personally know how scary it is to jump in the ring of fear and possibly fail. But failing is learning and attempting something new, as well, one step closer to success – and that friends, is another blog post to be written one day.
When we don’t go after what we want, all these little pipe dreams and things we want add up and eventually make us feel like we are failures; not strong enough, smart enough, or gives us a sense of “I can’t do that and I don’t even know where to start”. And then, we continue in our mundane life or job feeling unsatisfied because we are unhappy with ourselves. It becomes a vicious cycle that is a detriment to our psyche, and we start to feel less of ourselves; leading to fear, failure, imposter syndrome and a whole other gamete of mental triggers and emotions.
How do we combat our resolutions and creation of new habits? I did briefly mention journalling in my Instagram post, but here are some questions we can ask ourselves when we decide to set resolutions or work on new habits we wish for.
1. What is my current reality and am I committed to the outcome I desire? (Do I have time to make these changes?)
2. What are two to three actions or steps I can take or incorporate into my routine to make this change?
3. What do I need to accomplish my new dream? (time, skills, money, support)
4. How am I going to be held accountable for myself to continue on when I fall of the wagon or need a boost?
5. How will I know when I have reached my goal/dream/new habit? And how is it going to affect my life?
Okay, so your big goal, pipe dream, wish or desire is _____________________ .
Now, stop thinking about the BIG picture and think super small. What is one thing you can choose to change or work towards today that can help get one step closer to the goal?
How committed are you to work solely on this one step? If you make a mistake, how will you get back on track and just accept the fact that “life happened”? How can you prevent, or realize when you’re losing steam to forge ahead next time? And this could be where (journaling can help someone in solitude working on their desires, or) a coach can be of help to hold you accountable.
