BE INSPIRED: “Once you have clarity on what you want from life, the inspiration can take you far.”
In my coaching practice over 20 years, I work with an increasing number of people who embark on a mid-career change of direction. Making a career change is a well thought out process which is not that easy, or else everyone may be doing it. Their reasons may vary, some are going through a midlife crisis or have become extremely bored in their roles, they feel a lack of motivation, or are seeking a higher pay package. Most often it may be their way to find alternative jobs as they may be facing relationship challenges with colleagues. Often they have pondered over their situation and are yarning for solutions, answers or personal transformation from changing their career or business.
When we explore further some of the clients share they are looking for meaning in their work. They like to have the opportunities for promotion or to start their business as a way to pursue their passion. Some are even aspiring the freedom of working for themselves or self-actualizing at the summit of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.
As a leader I was in a job where I was facing Monday morning blues, with a career where I was trapped in finding meaning and a work life balance.
One powerful question I asked myself then was : What do I want to do with the rest of my life?
Those in employment context may have a challenging situation which is forced upon them making it compelling to act. The company I worked with was bought over and my position was made redundant. There are several reasons and often these are triggers, which bring in a sudden inspiration to act. For some who have been holding a dream, see this as an opportunity, and start moving forward with a plan to realize their dreams. They arrive at conclusions for themselves, often as pieces of advice that they would give to others, helpful advice they have picked up along the way, by reading a book or attending courses. Upon reflecting on this question, several options start to emerge which propelled me to arrive at a transition plan that can help move forward to embarking my journey to become a Professional Coach.
For some of us, who are struggling with choices, unfortunately often stay stuck in their current situation. They find it challenging to act as they are not too sure of the direction and path that will lead them to success. They hope to have a secure and definitive plan before they jump over. Over time, it may lead to frustration as nothing changes.
In engaging a professional Coach, they get to explore the options for deeper clarity and understanding in a timely manager. They emerge with a definitive plan, which is in alignment to their objectives, through the Career Coaching sessions. The valuable experience and expertise of a professional coach allows them to move from feeling confused to feeling empowered and inspired to act on their options.
If you are at this stage of your life, I leave you to ponder over another question:
