When you’re interviewing for a new job, there’s an often overlooked, but important way to assess what it would be like to work there.
When you’re interviewing for a new job, there’s an often overlooked, but important way to assess what it would be like to work there.
How they treat you during the recruiting process speaks volumes about their culture and work environment. In the recruiting business, it’s called “candidate experience.”
The best employers are proactive about making sure you have a positive experience at every touch point, starting with submitting your resume online. For example:
- They make it easy to apply online
- Their job posting “sells’ the position by talking about what makes them a great place to work, how they support your professional development, etc., instead of posting a long-winded position description with a laundry list of requirements
- They respect your time by removing unnecessary steps from the interviewing process
- They follow up in a timely manner and keep you updated on your status
- They respond promptly to your emails and calls
Employers that fail to do any of these could be raising red flags, so keep that in mind as you’re interviewing.
