The value of a morning routine

Morning routines are an excellent way to start the day with focus and energy. The success stories from the rich and famous are great samples of this.
The tone for effectively implementing morning routines may have been set by the rich and famous, supported by their to-do list before the sun has risen. Determined to start a new day fresh and invigorating, the chances you have noticed how the likes of Richard Branson, Dwayne Johnson, or Bill Gates have habitually created a system that fuels their 24 hours. There are hundreds of tips, recommendations and must-dos available online and offline, all intending to show that this may not be such a bad idea.
And in fact, studies have shown it can easily be the most productive time of the day.
Just like having a proper evening routine before dreamland is calling out your name, the mornings have shown to be the time to get something done. Rested, sorted and having done its clean-up work for the day, the status of the brain is at its best when “rise and shine” is called out, somewhere.
I never was a firm believer in setting time aside before I rushed back into the corporate world. Shower, coffee, and off to work in under 15 minutes was my credo. Ignoring my body clock, and preaching that before 6 am, my sheets and pillow were the best companions one could have. By 7 am, I switched on my computer for another day of emails, meetings, and venturing out into the world of business and big bucks.
It kicked my butt big time, lesson learned.
Nowadays, after months of finding my morning rhythm, I couldn’t be happier to have dumped my previous morning routines and have taken a more conscious and (more) productive path.
My mornings begin at around 5 am (on training days at 4.30 am). And before 8 am ticks away, I have done more to fuel up my day than I could ever imagine with exercises, reading, reviewing my day in peace, being mindful, and having that essential cup of coffee. That 5 am wake-up routine is now holy to me – every single day of the week (including weekends). I would not trade in this rhythm for all the money in the world.
While many try to mimic those who have successfully conquered the business, movie, or sports world with their morning story, it may not be what makes you thrive. Avoid comparing their world with what your morning can look like. Don’t measure their ways to kick start the day with energy and passion with yours.
Just like my coaching approach, you are unique.
Experiment with what you get from a celebrity morning insights (or mine, happy to share it) and tailor it to what makes you thrive. But by all means, ensure you got your mornings covered to flow through the day with an abundance of energy.
