Different ways of talking to ourselves and its impact
The way we talk to ourselves is very crucial and impactful not only on our lives today but also in the future and sometimes for lifelong. So, it’s very important to figure the way we talk to ourselves as it shapes our lives and give us the perspective to look at things the way we do.
Amazingly we treat other people with love, care, concern, empathy and compassion forgetting to do the same if not better with our own precious selves. So, let’s find out how we can talk to ourselves by being more gentle, loving and caring. So, we’ll imagine ourselves as a child, a best friend, favorite treat, the sun, a pet and a stranger.
As a child you can tell yourself that it’s okay to be sad and that I am here for you and I won’t leave you alone no matter what. We tend to hide our emotions and especially when we are sad or down because we keep hearing that you are strong and you can do it; people forget that being strong doesn’t eliminate the fact that we are still humans who have feelings and emotions and sadness is one of them. So if we treat ourselves as kids we’ll be allowing those emotions to be there, come out and feel better and safe.
Whereas treating yourself and talking to it as if you are talking to your best friend, you can say you are awesome and am so proud of you no matter what you do. And that you deserve the best always. Best friends are there for moral support and emotional lift ups and the moment we feel we failed we look for our best friends to at least be there, listen and embrace us as we are without judgments and be proud of us even we mess up.
Now when you have your favorite treat ever let it be anything like ice cream, chocolate or a delicious meal at your favorite restaurant, don’t you go crazy about it and you enjoy each and every bit about it? It just seems that time stood still, right? And you just want it to go on and continues. So, why not treating yourself like it and mention that you deserve every single dollar I invest in you as you don’t having anything more valuable to you than yourself and then the rest comes after it like family, friends and whoever.
Imagine it’s been a while since you saw the sun last, like a long dark night? Or after a long winter? Or after a rainy day? Don’t you miss it and want it to shine over you with its warmth and golden sunrays. So, if you are having a conversation with yourself imagining it’s the sun, you should appreciate its light by lighting your day and warm your soul since everything is alive because of the sun.
Having a pet is a great thing and people treat pets like their own kids but just think it this way with me and you being a pet and also you being the owner what do you tell your pet? You are the cutest thing I have ever seen and ever had in my life and I will never trade you for anything in my life regardless of what. How precious if you can think of yourself and talk to it this way.
The best is yet to come when you see some stranger sometimes and they are in trouble carrying something or lost for destination and you go and ask them if they need any help! The same thing is applicable on you by telling yourself would you like to be helped, as sometimes we take the weight of the entire world on our shoulders and never ask for help for many reasons that we might be rejected, judged or even made fun of just for asking help; whereas we see different people asking for it and getting it. So, all it takes is to ask.
We can see that we are more merciful to others than ourselves not all of us but could be the majority of us we forget to be loving to ourselves and we expect others to love us, and if we don’t love ourselves, how would we get love from others? Same way with the communication, if you want to master communications you should know how to do it with your own self and then with the rest of the people.
