Here are my top 3 motivational videos and my reasons why they made the list!
So Motivational Videos on YouTube!
I love that I was born in 1985 – I grew up using my imagination and playing outside, trading my younger brother my nickels for his pennies because, “why wouldn’t you want the bigger coin, little brother?”, and when computers became more of a part of every day life, I was still young enough to navigate “Ask Jeeves”.
Now, I also LOVE to read. I recently posted a 10-ish post story on Instagram about all of my favorites and in a couple months, I’m looking forward to doing it again with all of the books I HOPE to read between now and then.
But today, I want to focus on my top three favorite motivational videos! Easily searchable, pull on the right strings, get you moving, motivational videos. Enjoy!
3. ONE SHOT – 1 Minute Motivational Video – YouTube
I love this video so much for its length – 1 minute; you literally cannot beat it when you need to just quickly be reminded that no one ever accomplished a dream by simply thinking about it. My favorite line and the one that resonates with me the most is “and I don’t want to go through life being the 80% version of me.” It’s such an amazing way of looking at the way we prioritize our lives … how often have I said, “oh I don’t have enough time to run today”, and then that snowballs into not running for a week, and then suddenly I’m overstressed, overtired, not feeling like I’m 100% me? Same goes for chasing my dreams – how long can I lay in bed dreaming of the day I take my passions and put them into practice? How long can I allow myself to operate at 80% when I know exactly what it would take to get me to 100%?
2. Leader is Made By First Follower (TED Talks Courtesy) – YouTube
Ok so this one has been a favorite of mine for a VERY long time – and while it’s not “motivational” in the traditional sense, it has seriously shaped my views on leadership and my career. Being the best leader/supervisor/co-worker has always been incredibly important to me and equipping myself with education surrounding leadership is lots of fun; this video is a concept I reference a lot in my work life and always having the message of this video in the back of my head, especially while at work, makes me feel super clear and powerful when it comes to working with teams.
1. I’VE COME TOO FAR TO QUIT – Best Motivational Video – YouTube
Alright first of all, “sweat equity” is such an empowering term. Is there anything better than looking at your accomplishments and acknowledging the things you had to do along to get there? Especially when those things are rooted in energy, resilience, and attitude. Now, this video speaks to me for a couple other reasons as well…first, it speaks to the athlete in me; I love the feeling of being coached, I love the feeling of being that first player on the team to actively believe in the game plan set forth by the coach, to be able to look at the team and say, “ok we have the plan now jump on my back and I’ve got you” (first follower vibes!) But what I love the most about this video is the way it speaks to me when I reflect on what I’ve overcome in the professional life (especially). I struggle with the word “no” and I struggle with it because for me, it’s so final. Maybe I’ve blocked out all the “no’s” my parents told me as a kid, but the “maybe’s” have really stuck with me? Who knows. But, maybe gives hope to every kid looking to have their best friend sleepover and therefore, maybe tells me as a professional that my supervisor isn’t quite ready to close the door on my idea, suggestion, or direction.
The worst “no” I ever heard, was when I received word of a job posting that many friends and colleagues of mine thought I was super ready for and that I should apply for, so I asked my supervisor for a meeting so I could express to them that I wanted to apply. I had never felt more ready. I was excited, I thought this was my chance to take the years of experiences and turn them into a true next step.
And what I heard from my supervisor was no; no I wasn’t ready; no I shouldn’t apply. And that is when I realized that it truly did not matter what my resume looked like or how “ready” everyone else thought I was, because my supervisor stole something from me that day that I wasn’t ready to lose and because of that, I didn’t know how to fight it.
And months later, I finally realized, that just like in the video – life was asking me, “do you really want this?”. If it was so easy for me to quit on myself because someONE told me I wasn’t ready to achieve my goals, was I even worthy of achieving the next step? “You can’t stop ‘cause you got your feelings hurt”.
This video is every sort of reality check I’ve ever needed wrapped into 3.5 minutes. Depending on what I’ve got going on, the one or two lines I truly need will stick out to me and I feel powerful.
Happy viewing!
