Steps To Success In Your Personal Or Professional Life

Many of us are all seeking ways to achieve success in our personal and professional life. In this article I would highlight the steps to success.
We all yearn for more achievement or success. The majority of people believe that success is difficult to attain. They are mistaken; this is not the case!
Success isn’t nearly as difficult as it appears. There is a sizable segment of the population in North America that desires and requires success to be difficult! Why? Thus, they have a built-in justification for when things do not go their way! To put it mildly, this is a tragic scenario.
For those of you who are serious about having more, doing more, giving more, and being more, success is possible with some understanding of what to do, some discipline around preparing and executing those plans, and a belief in your ability to accomplish your goals.
The Reality of Success
To begin, keep in mind that success is a process – nothing more, nothing less. There is nothing magical about it, and it is not reserved for a select few. As such, success has nothing to do with chance, happenstance, or fate. It all boils down to comprehending the process’s steps and then carrying them through.
There are essentially six critical areas for increased achievement. Certain individuals will inform you that there are four, while others will inform you that there are eight. One thing is certain: regardless of the number of steps discussed by experts, they all stem from the same roots.
From my perspective, the following are the six critical steps:
1. Making a decision
2. Clarity – Vision development
3. Focus – having a strategy
4. Commitment – an awareness of the cost and a readiness to pay it
5. Belief – confidence in yourself and others
6. Take Action – practise Ready, Fire, Aim…
Making a Decision
If success is a process with defined steps, it is no different from any other process. Therefore, what is the initial stage in any procedure?
Making the decision to take action is the first step. We are all aware that nothing occurs until someone takes a choice. The initial action is always to decide to proceed. This is a critical step that the majority of people overlook.
Therefore, make the decision to proceed. Commit your decision to paper to help you focus on it. Then, by all means, go for it!
Clarity
Having a clear goal and vision of what you desire is arguably the most critical aspect in achieving. Why is Clarity critical?
Without clarity, you communicate with the Universe in a very muddled manner. We are all aware that the Law of Attraction states that we attract what we focus on, which means that if we lack clarity, we will attract uncertainty.
Consider the following illustration:
You’re about to embark on a cruise, but as the ship sets sail, you notice it lacks a rudder. What occurs? One of three things will happen:
1. You will continue to sail until you come into contact with an immovable object, at which point you will drop to the bottom.
2. You will come to a halt and become hopelessly entangled in the mud.
3. You will continue to drift aimlessly until you return to the original dock.
Attempting to navigate life without clarity is akin to piloting a ship without a rudder – nothing positive can or will happen!
The unfortunate reality is that the vast majority of people have no idea what they actually desire. They are opaque. When confronted with the question, responses will be superficial at best and will reflect what someone else desires for them at worst.
Thus, how can we achieve clarity? Simply by posing numerous questions: What do I truly desire? How do I define success? Why am I desiring a particular item? How will this accomplishment alter the course of my life? How can I use my achievement to help others?
The trick is introspection. Recognize what you desire, why you desire it, and what it will accomplish for you. This is a vital aspect, and as such, the most challenging step. As a result, the majority of individuals never fulfil this element of their lives — and then wonder why life is so difficult!
Once you have a firm grasp on your objectives, it is vital that you engage in goal setting – specifically, SMART goal setting.
The abbreviation SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely – S-M-A-R-T. Knowing what you want and using SMART goals to guide you on your journey will undoubtedly provide you clarity!
\sFocus
Focus is the ability to maintain an unshakable commitment to completing the task at hand. Every aspect of our lives is filled with diversions. Telephones and e-mail, clients and managers, wives and children, television, newspapers, and radio — diversions abound. Everybody wants a piece of us, which may be completely overpowering.
Thus, how can we keep on track in the face of so many diversions in our lives? While willpower is a wonderful start, staying on track only through willpower is extremely challenging.
The most effective method is to create and adhere to a strategy. Begin with the end in mind and work backwards to create the strategy. What steps are necessary to achieve your objectives? Create the most precise plan feasible. Make an attempt to visualise and then plan for any potential setbacks. Make a note on the plan and then carry it with you at all times. Regularly review it to verify that each step advances you closer to achieving your Vision and Goals. If the plan does not support the vision, it must be modified!
Along with your plans, you should consider building an action orientation that will drive you to take action at all times. This demands some self-discipline, but is a necessary component of any type of achievement. Before beginning any new activity, determine whether it will help you achieve your goals. If the response is no, you may choose to reconsider carrying out the task at that time.
I coach my clients on how to apply the three D’s — Defer, Delegate, and Delete. Is it possible to complete the activity later? Postpone it! Is it possible for someone else to do it? It is delegated! Is it even necessary? If not, you might want to consider deleting it! Posing these questions can assist you in refocusing your attention on what is truly important!
Commitment
Commitment is a state of mind that results from an acceptance of the fact that everything has a cost and the readiness to pay that cost. This is critical because nobody wants to invest substantial time and effort in something just to discover afterwards that the price was too high.
The price is not always specified in financial terms. It could be a matter of time, effort, sacrifice, or money, or it could be something else entirely. The idea is that if we want to succeed, we must be completely aware of the cost and willing to pay it.
Belief
This is undoubtedly the most significant hurdle that each of us must overcome in order to succeed.
We all have a great deal of baggage as a result of our upbringing. The bulk of people carries a complete set of self-limiting beliefs with them that will undoubtedly prevent them from achieving success. “I’m not good enough,” “I’m not intelligent enough,” “I’m not fortunate enough,” and, worst of all, “I’m not worthy” are just a few of the self-limiting attitudes I’ve experienced. We carry them around in our knapsacks like boulders and then use them to ruin our success. How bizarre is that?!?!
The ancient adage is entirely accurate — whether you believe you can or cannot, you are correct!
One of the primary areas in which I assist my clients is in shedding these unsupportive ideas and replacing them with ones that would assist them in achieving their goals.
It’s actually astounding the harm we can wreak on our children as parents. Therefore, why do we do it? Generally, we do not do it on purpose or with malice. The majority of the time, the reason is a well-intentioned but inept or unthinking parent who says the wrong thing at the wrong moment and the message sticks – it’s that simple!
And it is not just parents that contribute to these self-limiting views; teachers, friends, church members, and anybody else who has influence over a child can also contribute to these self-limiting beliefs!
The main conclusion is that we must discard negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones.
Taking Action
“Nothing changes unless something moves” is novelist and journalist Robert Ringer’s fighting cries. And he is dead on. Without action, no amount of decision-making, clarity, preparation, focus, or belief will bring you where you want to go!
What will lead you to your destination is action – putting your plans into action. Avoid becoming paralysed by analysis or trapped in the enigma of Ready, Aim, Aim, Aim, Aim…
Incorporate the oars into the water and begin rowing. Because execution is the single most important aspect in success, the faster and better your execution, the sooner you will reach your goals!
Conclusion
Thus, you now have the six steps necessary to reach the fabled land of achievement and success! You now have the opportunity to accelerate your progress and realise your full potential. No more excuses – commit TODAY to taking action!
Determine what you want, create a plan to get it, consider the cost, believe in yourself, and then go get it!
