Life is about learning from your mistakes. I've made tons. Here are some highlights in case you want a career coach with a range of experiences.
Care about the brand of the institutions you’re associated with, it can open doors for you years later.
Work hard to get people to vouch for you.
Listen to experienced people’s advice, they’re usually right.
Startups are intense and should never be pursued if your goal is to make money.
Be careful when working with family.
Get to know people and know that they want to get to know you.
Play the field, it’s good to have options.
Don’t assume anything will just be a 1-2 year stint, often they last much longer.
Be careful of geographic switching costs — especially if you plan to have kids or have an aging parent.
Luck favors the prepared who take lots of shots on goal.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
Ask yourself if you’d trust your leadership team with your own money.
It is almost impossible to hire to slow and almost never works out to hire fast.
It is almost impossible to fire too fast and almost never works out to fire slow.
Fear of failure, rejection, or embarrassment leads holds you back more than anything else.
Find jobs that play to your passions, skills, and strengths.
Know when it’s time to change teams.
Never underestimate the power of a great manager.
Knowing who you are, how you got here, and what your demons are will unlock nearly unlimited potential.
