What are the 5 “D’s” of Self Discovery? Part 4
The next stop in your developmental journey is the fourth “D” Destination. Ahh, you might say, I finally got there; I achieved my goal and reached the end. If we again look at the meaning of the word, there are some interesting insights in the definitions. The modern definition for destination is the place to which someone or something is going or being sent. However, when you look deeper at the root word what you discover is the following ~ destinare which means:
• to make firm, establish
• the action of intending someone or something for a purpose
At this our fourth stop, I want to invite you to consider destination as the state of being, not a physical place. This is the point in your journey where you actively process what you have learned, where you have been and perhaps even how you want to go forward. It is a place of knowing, knowing yourself, what you want and how you fit into the world. The place from which you are fully aware of who and what you are, warts and all as they say. This is the space where you come to acceptance and acknowledgement of what work you need to honor and what work still needs to be done. There is a maturity to your understanding of yourself at this point.
But is this the end? What do you do with all of this insight into who you are and what you are creating? This is the place of awareness. This is the place from which you can begin to let go of the small ego, of the behaviors and choices that don’t serve you. You are becoming the human being you have always ben capable of being. It is the place where you put your attention and intention on what matters. You are coming into alignment with the vision of yourself you created during your journey.
But is this the end? No, we have one more stop on our journey of the 5 “D’s”.
