What are the 5 “D’s” of Self Discovery? Part 3
Discovery is the third stop in our journey together. Is not life itself a journey of discovery? If you agree, then how do we apply discovery in this context? Again, I’m turning to the dictionary for context; here we see discovery as a noun is the act or process of discovering. The verb to discover is:
• is to make known or visible
• to obtain sight or knowledge of for the first time
In this third phase of your journey, you are invited to truly “discover” or see for the first time, new ways to move forward. The opportunity to test different approaches, theories and even different outcomes than you originally imagined. In this phase, you get to put that list of possibilities you created when you started charting your Direction into action. Consider how you use this journey to learn, adapt and grow into a bigger version of your direction.
This is one of the areas many of us are quick to move through. We are wired to get to the end, when really we should luxuriate in the discovery process. Take the time to fully explore what all of the paths and options are. What works, why or why not? Is it meaningful, satisfying, and contributing? What are you learning? Savor it! This phase can be painful. We get to test our bravery, learn what works and even better, what does not work. We are called to dig dip and really understand who you are and what you want to achieve in your developmental journey. What are you seeing in yourself, perhaps for the very first time?
Once you “see” this, what do you want to do with it? How do you shape this learning in such a way that allows you to move forward into your defined Direction?
