I know the worry, fear and stress that go hand-in-hand with a tight budget and running out of money before running out of month. I’ve felt the panic.
I know the worry, fear and stress that go hand-in-hand with a tight budget and running out of money before running out of month. I’ve felt the panic when swiping my debit card at the checkout and praying I hadn’t miscalculated. I know the fear of getting my car inspected and worrying there will be something that I didn’t know about that has to be fixed before it will pass.
How can we deal with a stressor that we feel we can’t fix or feel we have no control over? First, we need to get really honest with ourselves.
• Do you have an actual written budget?
• Are there luxuries or excess you can trim (even for a few months)?
• Can you get a part time job (even if temporarily)?
Next, is celebrate the small victories. With every small gain toward having an emergency fund, paying off a bill, and having a month of breathing easy you get to celebrate. Does that mean going out and splurging because you made steps toward your financial goals? No. Does that mean feeling the joy, doing a happy dance, checking off a goal on the list? Yes. You can find ways to celebrate without adding to the financial stress you are trying to overcome?
You can beat the burden of financial stress. I’m living proof and I would love to cheer you on your journey.
