Quit Living On Samples

The only reason we do not get what we really deserve is because we make a choice to live below our standards!
I may really play myself but hopefully it will be for the greater good! Anyone that knows me personally can tell you two things about me, first I like nice things and second, I can be a bit cheap as well. I will look far and hard for a decent deal. Sometimes this results in something worthwhile and other times it’s just a dud. With that said I experienced a simple conversation with an associate at the high glamour Sephora’s.
Awhile ago I was in a local Sephora’s looking for a fragrance for myself when an associate, very well dressed in her sleek black outfit, approached me. She was helpful, attentive and suggestive. As I began to settle on a particular bottle she saw I was conflicted. Did I want this one, that one or the other one??? What she said next totally messed me up. This woman looked me in the eye and offered to make me full 1oz sized samples of any cologne I desired. With no limitations! Are you serious?!? Some people should not have access to this kind of information. Needless to say I racked up on several. But here is the kicker. As I left she told me whenever I wanted more, just stop on by. Well, after many trips in and running through a lot of scents I happened upon that same associate the other day. She went through the pleasantries for awhile and then I asked her for another sample. I’d forgotten that the very first one she gave me was the one I was asking for again! Of course she was puzzled and my response obviously irritated her. I told her I have fallen in love with these samples and she said to me; ‘you aren’t going to get these samples forever are you?’ WOW! What a blow to my ego. It’s not that I couldn’t afford the whole bottle, it was just nice to have access to the scents without the overhead. But when I walked away I immediately saw a vital life principal. Notice the following:
(1) Living on samples limit your usage: As nice as these little tubes were, there was only so many wears I would ever get out of each one. This means I had to limit my ‘sprays’ to accommodate my lack.
(2) Living on samples is a major inconvenience to your lifestyle: Every few days I would have to swing pass the Sephora’s to ‘restock’ my supply which meant I would have to sacrifice some other task that may have needed my attention at that moment.
(3) Living on samples creates a co-dependant mentality: I didn’t see it, but those little samples caused me to depend on someone else to supply me on a regular basis when a complete bottle would have enabled me to wear what I want, when I want without someone’s assistance.
So the moral of the story is do not get trapped in the ‘samples’ of life, i.e. comfy job, routine lifestyle, average spiritual life or whatever you are doing. Samples mean someone else is suppling you and without them, you are going to be without! Your life is way too important for that!
