What are the Enneagram Personality types? They are nine different personalities that are ways we look at the world, deal with problems and, basically approach life. Why should I learn about my enneagram type? I can learn a lot from knowing my type, but better yet, learning more about my type can tell me very much about myself and how I can grow, how I can improve how I handle situations or how I take care of myself and relate to others. The enneagram personality types very greatly, so it depends on which type a person is as to what direction they need to grow. The Enneagram types according to Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson, experts in the field, from their book: “The Wisdom of the Enneagram” are:
Type One: The Reformer. Principled, idealistic, ethical and conscientious, strive to improve things, afraid to make a mistake, can also be perfectionistic and critical.
Type Two: The Helper. Caring, interpersonal, empathetic, sincere, warm-hearted, friendly, generous and self-sacrificing but also can be sentimental and people-pleasing.
Type Three: The Achiever. Success-oriented, adaptable, self-assured, charming, attractive, can be highly driven for personal achievement, often concerned about their image.
Type Four: The Individualist. Romantic, introspective, self-aware, sensitive, emotionally honest, can be moody and self conscious, can feel exempt from ordinary ways of living.
Type Five: The Investigator. Intense, cerebral, alert, insightful, curious, able to concentrate on developing complex ideas and skills, can become preoccupied with their thoughts.
Type Six: The Loyalist. Committed, security-oriented, reliable, hard-working, responsible, can be defensive, and highly anxious and cautious.
Type Eight: The Challenger. Powerful, dominating, self-confident, strong, assertive, protective, resourceful, decisive, can also be proud and domineering.
Type Nine: The Peacemaker. Easygoing, self-effacing, accepting, trusting, good-natured, stable, kind-hearted, can also be too willing to go along with others to keep the peace.
