I choose enthusiasm!

“Enthusiasm moves the world.” – Arthur Balfour.
It’s uplifting when we have it and nothing seems to make sense when we don’t.
Enthusiasm is an essential ingredient for a joyful and meaningful life. It’s the engine of self-development. Because, where there’s enthusiasm, fear gets small, courage steps up and everything becomes possible.
Last week, with the help of a person whom I respect and admire, I made a Top 10 of the most important values for me. I worked for two hours just to get them in the real order and the result astonished me.
Lately, I could not understand why I lose interest in some of my activities. After making this top I found out that the values associated to those activities were in the lower part of the top. Meaning, I was directing my energy towards something I had to do, but my mind and soul were permanently at those I wanted to do.
Through that exercise I got more clarity and the fact that I understood the cause of my inner unrest has brought me peace of mind and has increased my focusing ability and my energy for doing what I have to and what I want to.
In his book, Enthusiasm Makes the Difference, Norman Vincent Peale, considered the father of positive thinking, says enthusiasm is the force that transforms regular people into miracle makers.
I found here an interesting idea that may help you too. I’ve heard for the first time about mental ventilation. That is, in order to be able to keep ourselves positive and enthusiastic it’s important to have a mental ventilation exercise at each day’s end. Keeping your mind free of dark thoughts is an everyday’s work.
How do we do that ?
At the end of the day we recap the unpleasant moments of the day, the mistakes we’ve done, everything that bothered us. We make lessons out of all that had happened. We group together all the unpleasant matters and we imagine ejecting them out of our mind. Putting them in a trash bag and throwing it in the dumpster. It seems this exercise gets better with practice.
One thing’s for sure: it’s hard to have enthusiasm and dark thoughts at the same time. So, it’s within our power whether we choose to play a loop of negative thoughts or we throw them in the garbage bin and allow enthusiasm to fill us with life joy!
