How we bring about Positive Change
Meeting each day as it come.
The last 6 months have given us all heightened uncertainty. For me, as I set out this year to do more presentations, participate in my very first Ultraman as well as run Western States 100 mile run for my 5th start. This all came crashing down at the start of this pandemic.
My normal routine of training, my connection and interacting with people has also come to a skidding halt.
The message across the media is " We will get though this together" What does that mean? I feel that there is a deep hope for us to get back to ‘normal’ living.
One thing I have noticed is Mother Earth is striving to get back to her norm.
Change is hard, but this change has been even harder as we have to redefine how we interact with others, The impact of this pandemic has redefined how we shop, how we conduct social gatherings, how we visit our friends, how we travel, how we work, and how our kids go to school.
Now more then ever is a great time and opportunity for self care. This is one thing that is overlooked when we live our ‘normal’ life, because you claim there is no time or you are just way to busy.
Mother Earth is taking her time for self care, now it is your time. You see, when you think about what your ‘norm’ it is a reflection of your external world; time, work, running, gatherings and so forth.
What about your internal world? What about YOUR Self Care. Again, self care is so important because your inner world is a reflection of your outer world.
You ask how? Well I am here to share.
Here is a simple model to incorporate, the S.P.I.R.E. model. This represents Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Relation and Emotional.
Spiritual – Discover your sense of purpose. Create your sense of purpose / enjoyment, make it a part of what ever you may be doing. Start a project, take on a hike in nature, read a book you have had on the shelf for months, reorganize your house, work in your yard. Discover the things you always wanted to do and had no time.
Physical – Just because the gyms and pools have closed you don’t have to stop exercising. There are so many core classes, yoga classes, cycling classes now available on line through Zoom. Take up hiking, nightly walks in your neighborhood. Keep your fitness up along with good rest and healthy eating.
Intellectual – Engage in deep learning, start building your creative mind with journaling, Bring curiosity into your life, this helps create a sense of openness to what life has to offer and what opportunities are available to you.
Relational – Relationships are important to a full and fulfilling life. The foundation for a healthy relationship with others is FIRST a healthy relationship with YOURSELF. Incorporating these 5 elements is developing a healthy relationship with yourself,. Journaling, meditating, eating healthy and being creative.
Emotional – All emotions are legitimate and it is a part of being human, We are human with emotions. Emotions are the outcome of our thoughts and deeds, and inform our thoughts and deeds. Now is a time to create love and compassion for yourself during these uncertain times. Learn to reframe how you may respond to situations. Learn, experiment, reflect and have fun.
