Learning Habits

Learning is defined as knowledge or skill acquired by instruction or study. It is a habit that can be acquired. To do that, you need to do this.
A habit should be linked to a smaller and larger purpose. The smaller purpose should ideally be a short-term goal that you wish to achieve. For example, I want to add the habit of daily walking into my life. My short-term goal is to be able to tone up my body and muscles so I can walk for longer distances and durations with ease and comfort. My overall long-term goal for my new habit of daily walking is to lose weight.
In the “The Science of Getting Rich”, American New Thought and self-help writer Wallace Wattles discusses how important it is to develop strong and fully-realized life goals that will in turn bring you immense joy and love. Having such a strong emotional connection to your life goals allows your conscious brain to more easily think about all the possible ways for you to reach your goal. This strong emotional connection to your goals will help give you crucial insight to see all the possibilities that are around you to help you achieve said goals.
In my opinion, this is a crucial reason that some students in elementary and secondary school don’t see the full meaning and purpose of studying subjects they are not fully interested in. It can be more difficult for children to link what they are currently learning with their long-term goals. When you help them identify a reward, short-term goal and a long-term goal linked to all the scholarly subjects they are required to study, it will make a world of positive difference for them.
Playwright George Bernard Shaw said “We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." I like to always say that, “We don’t stop learning because we grow old; we grow old because we stop learning”. Learning does not just pertain to you learning about tangible and discernible talents and concepts, but it also incorporates wrapping yourself in incredible and enlightening mind, body and soul knowledge.
The important thing here is to know how to create your learning and studying habits, which in my opinion has a what I call the Tripod of Habit Creation: The PCT – Persistency, Consistency and Time.
