Dandelions and Persistence

Encouragement to never give up on yourself and the potential within you.
I am fascinated by dandelions. There is a quiet persistence concealed inside each buttery golden petal.
These stubborn yellow hued weeds push through patches of green. Focused and insistent as they arch their bright faces to shimmering sun, bending toward light, their stems trapped inside cracks of weary gray pavement, silently determined to thrive. They don’t seem to understand they are just unwanted weeds.
Dandelions demand our attention–their jarring glow unhidden against thick blades of grass, disrupting the perfection of a manicured lawn. They don’t see themselves as a nuisance. Instead, these dandelions believe they are something unique and wonderful, worthy of life. Their mission is to blossom and grow.
What if we were that persistent in life? What if we never gave up on ourselves and the ones we love? Even when the world tells us we are not good enough or we should give up.
God loves each of us with a beautifully ferocious determination. His love is unyielding. It is enough. Enough to eradicate the insecurities and fears that creep up on us and quietly haunt and cripple our lives.
Like those dandelion weeds, we must practice persistence. Persistence in loving ourselves for who we are and those around us, without judgment or comparison.
The next time you see a dandelion, remember the depth of God’s love for you which is fathomless.
