Want to feel better about your life? Follow these ten simple tips.
1. Do what you love.
Everyone loves to do something, when you indulge yourself in what you really enjoy, you improve the way you feel about yourself and improve your self esteem while you are at it!
2. Help others out.
Nothing makes you feel as warm and fuzzy as when you unselfishly help others. Kaballah would argue that this in itself is selfish, but if you take that line of thought you must think that existence is selfish. Forget that. Just do a good deed, help someone out, doesn’t have to be big and it doesn’t have to cost any money.
3. Acknowledge your strengths.
There is no one who has no strengths. Everyone is good at something, know what your good at and share it with the world. Exercise this quality and make it stronger.
4. Don’t put up with crap.
There is no reason you should tolerate other people being mean to you. Even if they say they are doing it with love. If someone is not nice to you, turn and walk away. It’s better than confrontation with an ignorant or jealous person.
5. Lose your negative friends.
Hang out with people who are positive and support you and bring you up. It may be fun to have a bitch-fest with friends every once in a while, but if you hang out with these types of people too much, you will eventually become one of them. Those people are never happy.
6. Do your research.
A lof of self help books are a waste of time in the sense that the only person who can change you is you. Even reading this post will not change you unless you get emotionally involved with the information. Instead read biographies of people you respect, people who do positive things and attain huge success. Learn from the masters.
7. Accept compliments with grace.
It’s hard to accept a compliment and easy to dismiss it by putting yourself down. For instance, when someone tells says you look great, you respond – “Really, thats hard to believe, I had no sleep last night.” Or if your friend tells you that you look like you lost weight you might respond – “Why, was I fat before?” A simple thank you is all that is needed. Try it.
8. Include positivity in your life.
Look at the positive angle for everything. If it rains and ruins your picnic, well at least the trees and grass and flowers are getting such much needed water. Go to a movie instead. Your computer just crashed, time to start fresh with a back up hard drive. You just learned from your mistake. Traffic making you late? At least you weren’t in the accident that caused it!
9. Make no comparisons.
You absolutely cannot, under any circumstances, compare yourself to someone else. There is always going to be someone prettier, richer, skinnier and more successful. Just compare yourself with the self that you were yesterday. If there is improvement, great. If not, you have something to work on.
10. Remember that confidence is all.
When you are seeing yourself in a negative light you are only reinforcing your low self esteem. If you want to improve your self esteem, work on your confidence. The more self confidence you have, the more likely it is you’ll succeed in any endeavor.
