How do you get from point A to point B in your life? I hope that it is not by sitting there waiting for life to hand your next action step to you on a golden platter. What you need to do is take action and that action works of a little ideal called “faith”. In order for anyone to move in the direction they want in their life, movement forward is needed. This can be an all in jump off a cliff, or baby steps but in order to accomplish anything in life, progressing to the next level has to happen. There is every excuse under the sun out there as to the reason why not to take the first step.
These excuses might be:
• Fear of the unknown
• Low self confidence
• Poor self belief
• Unstable support system
With the help of faith and knowing in your heart that you are taking that step, only good things can come from it.
As leaders and mentors, it is our responsibility to take our clients and/or trainees by the hand and walk them down that path of the unknown to help them take that first step into the great abyss of life. We can consider ourselves the “bungee cord” for our clients or trainees. If they fall and don’t make it, we can bounce them right back to see what went wrong and assess the situation. Just always let them know that failure is not a bad thing. In fact, failure is a great thing if it is learned from. This is where I see a lot of trainees get frustrated. I’ve seen leaders and mentors that don’t know how to handle failure for them or their trainees and then they end up losing those them forever. It seems like a simple discipline but the meat and potatoes of this discipline are very difficult to master.
So action plans to help your trainees or clients stay motivated
and have the confidence to take that first step forward in faith.
• Read Biographies- you will find that anyone that has been successful has had to take a step in faith one time or another.
• Continuing reassurance through coaching and consulting. Below are some phrases that you can give to yourself or your trainees. Have them look in the mirror and repeat these phrases every day until their belief system is set.
o I am tired of being stepped on!
o I am tired of always failing!
o From this point in my life, I will refuse to fail!
o I am just as capable, if not more so, than many who are achieving success!
o I’ve got to stop wasting time!
• Have a creative mind- sure we have our templates but think outside the box
The key is to “GET UP AND GET GOING”. Believe that you can do it and anything is possible.
