What is your MED?

When we have a goal we might sometimes struggle to think what effort is required to achieve this goal.
Minimum effective dose (MED)
I was reading the 4-hour body by Tim Ferriss in which he uses the example of minimum effective does (MED) to think through how one can create the desired body they want in just 4 hours per month. This got me thinking to sales and other part of one’s life, could we apply MED to more things?
Many of you might be asking what MED is. Let me explain through using the example of boiling water. When you boil water, you need a certain amount of heat of energy in order to get those bubbles boiling to the surface. This is 100 degrees Celsius. Anything less and you won’t get boiling water, anything more is a waste. 100 degrees Celsius is the MED for boiling water. You would never heat the water to 300 degrees if your desired state is boiling water, you would simply be wasting 200 degrees of energy.
When you understand this concept, you can easily apply it to other parts of your life! Think about your career you are in, what would success look like? (i.e. what do you want to boil?). Then what do you need to do in order to achieve this success? (i.e. what temperature is required?). Anything more than this temperature would be a waste. I think we often don’t take the time to really unpack what we want and how we are gong to get there. When we skip these two steps, we run the risk of expending more energy than we require in order to achieve the result. We might run around focusing on the wrong thing or even a multitude of things which are not necessary. There are only so many hours in a day, we can’t do it all and honestly, we don’t need to do it all.
So, the next time you are looking to create a shift or success in something in your life, think about what my MED is and how will I get there. Having a thinking partner can really help with this. Find yourself a qualified coach who has a proven track history of helping people think, not someone who will do the thinking for you, someone who will push you hard to do the work required to find the magical MED.
Good luck!
