Feeling stuck is simply a sign that something in your life needs to change. The good news is, you CAN move past this feeling of stuckness with simple strategies that I am going to tell you about now.
In the article you will learn:
✅When the perfect time is to begin anything
✅A powerful exercise to help you get super clear on your life’s direction.
✅Another way to view failure.
✅How engaging in this one saboteur daily can affect your mental health resulting in diminished self-worth, confidence, and your ability to make a positive change in your life.
✅One thing you must have to help you succeed.
So the first saboteur that may be keeping you stuck in life is Procrastination. Understanding that when you wait for the perfect time to begin, this time may never come. Sadly there is no perfect time to start. You may hope and dream about what you want to accomplish but without immediate action, you will remain stagnant.
One simple strategy to help with procrastination is to simply begin. Think of one action or one small step that you can do today to begin taking action. And remember, this action can be very small. The important thing to remember is just to begin with one small action. Once you do, and you have accomplished that tiny goal, celebrate your small win and be proud that you have taken one tiny step. Then, take another very small action. You want to continue this process and as you gain momentum, and celebrate each win along the way, you may feel motivated to continue forward towards positive change.
The second saboteur is Lack of vision. Think about the last road trip that you took. Did you have a destination? Most likely you put the address of where you were going into Google Maps or Mapquest and then you followed the map to get you there. Keep in mind that in order to get to where you want to be, you must know where you want to go. There is a famous quote by Yogi Berra that says “ If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”When you lack a clear vision ( or destination of where you want to be in life), you make it impossible to know where to go.
A strategy to help with lack of vision is to develop your personal vision statement. This exercise helps you get crystal clear about what you want your life to look like in 6 months or a year and write it down. The more detail you write down, the easier it will be to bring this vision into reality.
The third saboteur that may be keeping you stuck is Negative self-talk. Take pause and note how you speak to yourself. Resist the urge to focus on the negative. Engaging in negative self-talk daily can affect your mental health resulting in diminished self-worth, confidence, and your ability to make a positive change in your life.
One simple strategy to help turn negative self-talk on its head is with positive self-talk. When a negative thought enters your mind, try to replace the thought with a positive affirmation. I did an entire episode on **positive affirmations so be sure to check out my website “Lori Lander Coaching” for more info on how to create and implement positive affirmations. The more you practice, the easier it becomes.
The fourth saboteur is Perfectionism. Keep in mind that perfectionism comes with a very high price. Setting unattainable goals and unrealistic expectations for yourself or allowing nothing less than perfect can stop you in your tracks and cause you to feel seriously stuck in life.
You can help yourself with perfectionistic tendencies by adopting the attitude of “good enough”. Try stepping away from a black and white mentality and allow yourself to get comfortable in the gray area of life. This is definitely an area that I myself have struggled with and I now practice living in the gray every day.
Although it may feel a bit uncomfortable at first, try to refrain from the all or nothing mentality and relax in the middle. It is truly amazing how your life can shift and you can begin to move forward when you remove the barrier of perfectionism.
The fifth saboteur is Fear of failure. Fear of failure can paralyze you. It can cause you to resist moving forward and keep you in your all too familiar comfort zone. I love this quote by Oprah, “There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.” I truly believe that failure is like a guide that lets you know when it is time for a detour. A simple strategy to help you with fear of failure is to practice the way you look at failure and view your failures as simply being redirected. This may help ease your fear and help move you forward.
The sixth and final saboteur is Lack of Support.
When you lack a compassionate support system to help you through challenging times, this may cause you to feel lonely and frankly stuck. The one thing that you must have in order to succeed in life is social support. We all need support at one point or another as we change and grow. Simply talking through your challenges and feelings can make a world of difference and help move you along.
So, when you are feeling stuck it is crucial that you get support from others. You can reach out to a loved one, friend, colleague, or mentor who understands you and is able to help move you forward. It is also important that you stay in touch with them for accountability purposes to ensure that you continue to get the support that you need.
