A Job Search is Like Dating

Keep a balanced perspective on the job search - it's not a one sided activity.
Haemin Sunim, the Buddhist monk, likens his first teaching job search to dating:
“I might like it, but it might not like me.
Or it might like me, but I might not like it.”
As a coach, I really appreciate this analogy because it offers a balanced perspective on a job search. Candidates frequently focus on the hiring manager’s opinion of them, versus whether they, the candidate, will like the organization’s values, culture, and offerings.
It can be helpful to keep in mind that the hiring manager is hoping you are a good match for the opening, just as much as you are hoping you will like (and get) the job. Maintain that balanced perspective!
