I am not going to even ask you do you fell stressed quite frequently, because all of this what is going on in the world right now made us all feel stressed, worried and lost. Even if not being ill from the flew or coronavirus, we are all suffering from stress, anxiety and fear of what will happen in the future ,after the coronavirus situation ends. How will our life look like? What will happen to us regarding financial situation?
We can not predict the future. We can not influence it in a way to change time and the way this crisis impacted the whole world. But ,what we can do is to help ourselves to manage all this changes more effectively within ourselves in a way that it doesn’t affect our mental and psychical health. One of the techniques that I personally prefer and sometimes use in combination with Life coaching sessions is Reiki healing.
In the following sections I will explain to you what is Reiki ,what are its benefits and how they can help combat negativity, stress, pain, fear, anxiety and transform your life toward better and healthier living.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a type of energy healing technique developed in Japan, in the early 20th Century and now it is practiced around the world.
The word “Reiki” means “mysterious atmosphere, miraculous sign.” It comes from the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy).
According to practitioners, energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or possibly emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness.
Energy medicine aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. Improving the flow of energy around the body can enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.
Current form of Reiki was first developed in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist called Mikao Usui, who reportedly taught 2,000 people the Reiki method during his lifetime.
The practice spread to the U.S. through Hawaii in the 1940s, and then to Europe in the 1980s.
It is commonly referred to as palm healing or hands-on healing.
Benefits Of Reiki
1. Reduces Depression And Anxiety
Studies have shown that Reiki can help to reduce depression, fear and anxiety and to promote mental and emotional harmony and balance- by balance I mean mental and emotional balance, left and right side of our brain,which enables us labelling things as good or bad, positive or negative etc..
Reiki has been shown to help those in negative emotional state of mind to change and feel more positive through receiving the life force energy and dissolving any energetic blockages. Reiki works directly on restoring balance on all levels and works directly on the problem and condition instead of just masking or relieving symptoms.
2. Reiki heals our physical illnes
Research has shown that Reiki has been able to help people with certain pains and other symptoms that they may have. Whilst it is not a direct cure, it can alleviate a range of physical difficulties.
In one study, Reiki was shown to be the most effective therapy for pain-relieving effects.
Researches also revealed that Cancer patients who took part in Reiki had their tiredness, pain, and anxiety significantly decrease. After quite a lot of research, many show that Reiki can be very effective when it comes to reducing symptoms of pain.
Reiki encourages our system to improve our body’s vital functions (breathing, digesting and sleeping) .
Reiki helps to relieve pain from migraine, arthritis, sciatica ~ just to name a few. It also helps with symptoms of asthma, chronic fatigue, menopausal symptoms, and insomnia. Reiki can also heal some mental disorders such as depression, trauma and addictions.
In a case that was conducted, people who received Reiki as opposed to those who relaxed and those who received neither treatment were found to have an increased number of white blood cells. The study showed that the immune system was enhanced due to this. White blood cells are the cells of the immune system, and our immune system will aid our bodies in defending against germs or infections such as colds and sore throats.his shows that Reiki can have a positive effect on our bodies, helping us to prevent catching colds or other infections.
Reiki healing improves your breathing, heart rate and blood pressure . Breathing deeper and easier is one of the first things to happen during a self-practice or treatment received from someone else. When we breath better, our minds naturally settle. Science supports that.
As your respiration deeper your body moves into parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) dominance i.e. the rest/digest phase. Your body was made to function primarily in the rest/digest phase rather than the more commonly experienced fight/flight phase.
4. Reiki Calms The Mind
Because Reiki can help you to reconnect with your heart, and with your Higher Self, it can really help you to clear your energy of any negativity. Reiki can help you to reconnect with your true center. Then, you can become aware of any negative patterns that you may be holding on to and letting take over.
So, using Reiki can help you to face your negative energies and focus on when you are holding on to them. This can help you to let go of them and clear your mind. You can then focus on the positive energy that you have, that flows through you, which will help to calm your mind.
Reiki addresses the whole person, rather than targeting individual symptoms. It can create profound, often subtle shifts from deep within your own being. What does that look like? Guidance about what to do around difficult situations can come more easily. Or it may inspire a change in attitude or belief about your situation. Suddenly, you see your condition from a fresh perspective and are able to deal with it in a more positive way. Or it might direct you to the right kind of action needed which is guided from within.
5. Boosts Intuition And Creativity
Reiki can reduce your stress levels and bring you clarity and focus. This can be great for focusing on your intuition as you can feel more rational and stress-free.
With creativity, Reiki can help as it breaks down any energetic blocks. Once you are free of these blocks you can focus on opening up new avenues and inspirations, be able to generate new ideas and use your imagination easily.
You do not need to be into spirituality to enjoy the benefits of reiki. Yet, for many they receive reiki treatments to support themselves through their self healing journey i.e. spiritual growth / personal development.
6.Helps better sleep
The number one outcome of receiving a Reiki session is relaxation. When we’re relaxed, we sleep better, our bodies heal better, we think more clearly, and we relate to each other more genuinely. Often clients will experience deep relaxation during their Reiki session and sometimes a deep sleep during the session as well.
7.Complementing medical treatments
Reiki is a wonderful compliment to conventional medicine and helps relax patients on the levels of the mind and physical body. When a patient is relaxed the healing process is accelerated. People sleep much better and are calmer following Reiki treatments.
The beauty of Reiki is that it is non invasive and is administered in a very gentle manner. The Reiki practitioner can give Reiki without touching the body in cases where patients have burns or major injuries.
Reiki is safe to use if you have medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes or heart conditions. You may receive Reiki treatments if you are undergoing chemotherapy. Pregnant woman can have Reiki treatments to support them through all stages of the pregnancy. Reiki is for everyone!
6. Self Care Tool
Reiki can also be used by yourself, as a self-care practice. You can perform Reiki on your own body too, and this can be a great way to de-stress and be at peace after a long day. If you think about when you may have accidentally hurt yourself, your body heals on its own, so using Reiki can bring that healing energy to your body and get rid of any energetic blockages.
You can pick a time, set up your space with pillows and candles and use the technique on yourself, which will give you some self-care, and you also might find you are calmer and have greater inner peace.
