Case Study: Well-being Matters More Than Body Size

Most people believe that working on food, physical activity will help them feel good. It does, but there are couple of other factors as well.
Ronit (Name changed) aged 33, an NRI and banking professional had it all what many would dream of.
Foreign citizenship, own house, luxury car, 7 figure salary, beautiful wife and was climbing corporate ladder higher each year.
He hired me as his Health Coach to reduce weight and improve fitness. Within 2 months he lost 10 kgs, dropped many inches, felt confident, light, and his cognitive abilities increased significantly.
All this without any diet or gym. Seemed like magic but results were real.
All this while we only worked on mental training. Using habit and behavior change to create healthy lifestyle patterns.
He was wowed by the power of health coaching and admitted following wrong strategies all these years to manage weight.
As our 2 months program came to an end, he requested another month. But this time he wanted to work on his anger, stress and marital relationship.
Ronit, being project leader of his team, had many responsibilities. Conflicts were inevitable. Stress was part of the work.
It was challenging. Anger and stress management techniques we tested for 2 weeks showed little improvement. Though now he was more self-aware of his emotions, knew triggers, right coping methods. Anger still wasn’t going away.
In our 3rd session, we made a break through. The root cause of anger was hidden beneath many layers…
(Clue for readers- life purpose)
We did intensive goal setting around it. He now had clear roadmap. He started using his strengths and things started getting better each day.
His wife, Geet (Name changed) also enrolled my program. She shared her part of the story. She was also working, had own bundle of work-load and with time they both drifted away emotionally.
Their married life of 4 yrs was on the verge of breaking. Ronit had a female colleague with whom intimacy reached to an inappropriate level.
Geet had difficulty forgiving and trusting again. Sessions with me, helped her gain new perspective and move past the painful incident.
She discovered in our sessions how changing her communication style can bring peace in her relationship.
She realised how the void she created unintentionally caused 3rd person to creep into their marriage. In-between the sessions my check-ins kept her accountable to what she promised working on.
Gradually within 1 month their relationship improved from 6 to a score of 9.5 out of 10. Ronit on the other hand, was able to strike a positive work-life balance and learned how to cope up with negative emotions in a healthy way. They now prioritize spending quality time with each other. Love sparked again.
The couple is planning to have a baby soon and keenly looking forward to celebrate their anniversary. They decided to take follow up coaching sessions quarterly to keep improving and growing in life and their careers.
Couple of times, I had to switch my roles…
From a coach to a consultant…to a friend…. to a motivator… to a counselor, and to a humble patient listener.
Health coaching is so much more than meal and exercise planning. People I work with bring not just health issues but their whole self in the journey of transformation.
If you or anyone else you think can benefit from health coaching. Bring them on…
I am here to help and serve.
