If you improve your emotional intelligence you will understand your own feelings and emotions better and the feelings of others better.
Do you want to improve your emotional intelligence? What would that do you for you?
If you improve your emotional intelligence you will understand your own feelings and emotions better and the feelings of others better. This would help you to be in charge more of your emotions and you would lose your temper less or break out into tears less. Finally, and in my opinion the most important, you would be able to make better decisions using your emotions and therefore help to improve your performance.
Studies have shown that people with higher emotional intelligence have better psychological well-being and do better at work. Who knows, you may even get a raise!
So back to my question at the beginning of the article – do you want to improve your emotional intelligence?
If your answer is yes, you might want to try mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation will help you understand your own emotions and not get swept up in them. Thoughts will come and thoughts will go and you will notice them and let them go. You will also, most probably, notice the emotions of others because meditators have been shown to have more empathy.
So Dr. Charoensukmongkol decided to see if all this was true. He collected information on 317 people in Thailand. 200 people reported that they meditate regularly, most of them said they meditated 2 hours each day – some serious meditation.
I am fairly certain that you will not be surprised that the meditators had higher levels of emotional intelligence. These people, in general were less stressed, were better able to understand what triggered their emotions and then managed their emotions better.
Want all these benefits? Want to perform better? Meditate!
