What do you want to be when you grow up?
All through a child’s life they are asked this question. Sometimes I still ask myself that question. I thought I had figured out the answer many times over throughout my career; however, from time to time my mind begins to wonder. The greener pastures always look far better than my own flowered prairie. At different times in my life I have sought career’s that give me differing levels of flexibility. Straight from college I wanted to work in a traveling career. See the world and serve those along the way. Then I decided to entertain marriage. Now I needed a career that kept me at home more often. The next change in my career decision was when my first child arrived. You guessed it – no travel! No matter the stage of life, or career, you are in the first step is always taken, well first. You must answer the question, “What do I really want to do to earn an income?” Self evaluation can be difficult so give some time to figure this out. Ask yourself “What is my passion? What do I enjoy spending time doing? What hours do I prefer working? How much money does my lifestyle demand? Am I willing to move? Travel?” As you come to answers jot down all your thoughts. Keep thinking and writing until you have a pretty clear career visualized. Now let’s go find it!
