About Me

My approach is warm, gentle, and critically-minded. I bring years of experience navigating genre-ambiguous work about topics that I’m passionate about as well as difficult personal experiences. That’s why I know how challenging the writing process can be—especially with these kinds of projects—and that supportive, nonjudgemental feedback can make a world of difference. At the same time, I also know that getting clear about what’s going on with the work at the level of form and craft—and setting priorities around that—is essential for moving the work forward and finding ease within the process.

I have found that a holistic approach to writing which balances both the support we need to keep going and a rigorous attention to form can be elusive. That’s also exactly what I strive to provide as a writing coach: guidance rooted in knowledge of writing craft and unconventional literary forms, that is also patient, supportive, and committed to nurturing our intrinsic capacity to move through—and learn from—the creative process.

In addition to my own experiences as a writer, my coaching practice draws on my work teaching creative writing and composition at UC San Diego, my work at the Writing Center at Evergreen (including facilitating a writing tutor training program), and with designing and implementing an expressive writing project for AYA cancer patients with an interdisciplinary team at Rady Children’s Hospital. I also bring my studies and workshop experiences in cross-genre and interdisciplinary settings, including the Evergreen State College and UC San Diego, from which I hold an M.F.A. in Writing.
