About Me
I have been overweight and overwhelmed by clutter. I've both lost the weight and ditched the disorder. Work with me 1-1 to reach your weight loss and organizational goals.
I'm a born and bred New Yorker and went to college in Los Angeles.
I spent my childhood and teen years as a competitive gymnast until leaving the sport my senior year of high school. I loved tumbling and dancing, but injuries and toxic scrutiny over the scale fueled my decision to leave that behind and look to the future.
I went to college dreaming of being a sports psychologist. My path led me a different direction.
One thing was consistent after leaving gymnastics. I gained weight. Throughout and after college, through family dysfunction, working long hours in retail, getting married, and having two children.
I became depressed, disappointed and lost my identity.
My moment of catharsis happened when I saw my reflection in the glass partition at my daughter's first gymnastics class.
I saw a woman I didn’t recognize and didn’t want to be. I was embarrassed and ashamed.
Soon after, I joined WW. Over the course of 18 months, I lost 65 pounds. I signed up for adult tumbling classes. I dropped 6 sizes and felt reborn.
I was recruited and joined the WW staff. I was able to help people (like me) find success and guide them to a better place, physically and emotionally.
In over two decades, I helped thousands of people lose weight and keep it off. I facilitated workshops in-person and virtually and worked as a personal coach.
I became a Certified Life Coach in 2022. It's clear to me that my purpose is to help people.
I spent nearly a year working with a personal organizer and researching the deep relationship between clutter and weight. I created the Design Your Healthy Life Strategy plan to help people lose weight by removing the physical, digital, mental, and emotional clutter in their lives. There are weekly Zoom meetings and over 50 on-line readable and pre-recorded video courses.

When I thought of choosing a coach for my weight loss journey six years ago I knew that I needed someone who would gently prod me along my weight loss journey with empathy and kindness. I also knew that I needed someone who would share with me the skills that could help me become my healthiest very best self. Someone who would support me becoming the conductor of my own train rather than a passive passenger on someone else's. Someone who was thoughtful, honest, joyful and real. Someone who would support me when I wavered or fell off the wagon and cheer me when I got back on and when I succeeded. Someone to guide me in taking many, many small steps leading to reach my goals. When I think about who that coach became for me ,100 extra pounds ago, it was purple haired, funky, lovable, capable and competent Melanie Cohen. Lucky me and lucky you if you jump at the opportunity to let her guide you on your journey to achieve a better, happier and healthier life

I've been working with Melanie of Thoughtfully Coaching for several months. First, one on one to help me focus on some foundational behavior improvements when it comes to weight loss and I am currently taking part in her weekly seminar series to help improve other areas of my life. I find her very upbeat, informative and supportive. She really understood my specific challenges and helps me bridge the gap between wanting to do something like track calories, drink more water, and understanding more about handling urges and cravings to actually doing it!
