About Me
My mission over the course of almost five decades is to unleash human potential and change lives. You can find a detailed bio on my website "SmartLeaders," a description of my leadership courses, my books and my blog (subscribe at no cost), as well as client testimonials and book reviews. I have provided counsel to senior executives and ascending, highly talented Millennials in over 600 organizations (independently verified) in both the public and private sectors. The content of my website will answer any question you may have about my approach and will provide the assurance and insights you may be seeking (about what I do, how I do it, and why). I do not charge for initial or follow-up consultations until a mutual "comfort level" or fit is achieved on both sides of the relationship -- this I believe is critical to our ongoing success. I am somewhat "picky" about the people with whom I work (see the "ideal client summary" above), just as I expect them to be likewise. Many client relationships date back years, even decades; others understandably end when the value is no longer there. Make an inquiry, tell me what you may be seeking or need in an executive (high-performance) coach and let's see if there might be a measurable ROI for you and your career aspirations.

Jim Murray inspires me because he shows we are all a “work in progress” and have the choice to drive our lives along the path of our choosing. His crisp advice helps identify and seize opportunities and makes sense of current challenges.
Kevin, CEO, Vancouver
Dr. Murray’s remarkably simple yet profoundly powerful counsel encouraged me to review my life choices with renewed introspection. I found myself reassessing both my personal and professional goals, making thoughtful decisions and choices about the future.
John, Principal, Toronto
Dr. Jim’s advice is always relevant and resonates. It’s like a crack of light shining into a dark room and provides wise counsel and immediate comfort, especially in times of utter despair. His wisdom is my rudder for continued growth.
Tyler, Manager, Winnipeg
Jim is at his absolute best synthesizing the most up-to-date research and providing insightful, easy-to-understand steps. It’s easy to find people who are willing to give you advice. It’s harder to find those whose advice is worth listening to. Jim’s advice is not only worth listening to; it is worth acting upon.
Don, CEO, London
I have had the privilege to learn from Jim Murray for the past four years. I have hundreds of emails and pages in my notebook filled with his thoughts and advice.
Ellen, CEO, Toronto
Jim’s coaching will not charm you. He is no nonsense, direct and to the point. He offers hard truths and practical down-to-earth advice based on decades of personal research and eclectic experiences.
Volodymyr, CFO, Vancouver
I came across Jim Murray at a time of significant change in my life. After nine years with a company in progressively senior roles, the last one a VP position, I decided it was time for a change and new challenge … and I left my company. It was a monumental leap – for the first time ever in my life, I had no job. It was a courageous, exciting and very scary decision. Jim’s insights and no-nonsense way of delivering his message really connected with me!
Elizabeth, VP, Toronto
