About Me

Dr. Hyong didn’t plan on creating Personal Success Systems, he initially pursued a career in economics, with the goal of returning to South Korea and advancing the economy. After receiving his M.S. in Economics from Illinois State University in 1984 and running his own Tae kwon do studios, he realized his passion for guiding the improvement of others. Dr. Hyong knew that physical strength was not enough to succeed in life, and he wanted to see his students develop their confidence and self-discipline using proven psychological techniques.

In 1987, Dr. Hyong attended the Harvard University symposium held by Renowned Professor David McClelland on Achievement Motivation and “Improving Human Performance by Adjusting Self-Image,” learning that the subconscious mind is where the seed of our ambitions are created and what controls our mindsets and behaviors and this serves as the basis for Dr. Hyong’s results-driven approach. In 1995 after studying psychologist Dr. Milton Erickson’s use of medical hypnosis and Erickson’s beliefs on the power of the subconscious mind, Dr. Hyong studied Richard Bandler’s Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) based in part on Erickson’s work, and became a certified NLP trainer, followed by receiving his Ph.D. in Psychology/Hypnotherapy from La Salle University in 1997 and founding Personal Success Systems.

Dr. Hyong incorporated elements from each of these well-known innovators to create his results-driven, signature approach. When he applied it to his martial arts students, he saw a dramatic difference. Dr. Hyong has since used these same techniques to help countless students and clients overcome personal obstacles and achieve their life goals.
