About Me

After getting a PhD in Computer Science focusing on the development of educational simulations, I started my professional journey by spending 20 years in the technology industry both developing and managing the development of educational software. All throughout my career in EdTech, my focus was on creating software that provides opportunities for students to really learn things.
Additionally, I spent 12 years of my time in EdTech managing a team of up to 12 engineers and learning designers. My favorite part of the job was working with them to help them figure out who they wanted to be professionally and how to get there.
In parallel with all of that, I have spent 34 years in 12-step recovery, and have been guiding people through the recovery process for the vast majority of that time. This combination of personal and professional experience has given me insight into what it takes to be successful -- self-confidence, grit, a growth mindset, stress management, and personal responsibility. I call these the 5 Pillars of a Success Mindset.
I have a coaching certification from UC Davis and an ICF ACC credential, giving me the theoretical and practical background to knit all that together into a coaching experience.The techniques I use are derived from my experience in 12-step recovery, from my coach training, and from my experience as a manager in the technology industry.
